WEBMASTER

 

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Educational Technology and Information Systems, create and maintain the District’s Web Site, manage Web servers and Web-enabling access to data and applications on servers.  Provide support to District school sites and departments in the development and maintenance of Web publications, and support District electronic communication process via online tools and applications.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Build and assist in the development of highly effective and content relevant websites used for K-12 environments; create HTML files; convert various file formats into HTML and PDF formats.
  • Manage websites and perform continual maintenance (i.e. links, database, and maintaining and configuration of servers); transfer files to and from a Web server.
  • Provide web space for individuals, schools and departments; review web analytics and make recommendation to increase traffic; manage Web server software, security and accessibility.
  • Communicate with various users regarding Web server(s) content and content published in Web format; discuss current and future functionality with management.
  • Create programs and applications to allow users to view and/or manipulate data residing on a server through a browser (Web-enabling). 
  • Create and edit, graphics, animation, audio, and video files.
  • Assist District personnel in the development and maintenance of Web sites via site promotion, sending out email, voicemail, newsletters, etc.
  • Monitor security and perform all necessary updates to the company site, minimizing downtime; repair broken links and resolve reported bugs.
  • Support web based applications and services such as; Blackboard, Follett and GAFE.
  • Comply with applicable state, local and federal rules, regulations, and laws as well as the policies and procedures of the District.
  • Work with various data publishing tools including SRSS, SIS, Curriculum applications and data extracts to create reports and dashboard data tools.
  • Manage user accounts for the website, mass notification applications, public facing applications and social media management.

 

OTHER DUTIES:

Assist other departments on special projects as assigned.

 

Perform related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Web programming; knowledge of HTML codes, HTTP, and XML.

Internet/World Wide Web capabilities/features, operational principles, trends, applications, sites, terminology, variations caused by different browsers/versions/hardware.

Software applications used to create publications such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Illustrator, Acrobat, Photo Shop, MS Word and PowerPoint.

Website design and development procedures for content management systems (CMS).

HTML programming languages; CSS, HTML. Javascript, PHP.

Basic computer operating systems including Windows 10, OSX and network protocols.

Various technologies such as Oracle, Access, SQL, Microsoft Exchange Server, Outlook and mail protocol standards.

Image scanning and manipulation.  Digital multimedia (2D & 3D graphics and animation, video, sound, authoring tools).

Technical aspects of field of specialty.

Oral and written communication skills.

Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Demonstrated expertise in technology and information systems via:

Five (5) years of experience in a related technology field or two years working in or with public K-12 educational technology; and two (2) years of experience in the design, creation and formatting of websites, social media marketing and web analytics.
