Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking qualified applicants for this critical and full-time position. The Senior Network Communications Technician performs a variety of skilled and technical tasks by maintaining the College’s voice and data network infrastructure; to include the installation operation and maintenance of the following: networking equipment, telecommunication equipment, physical and virtual servers, peripheral equipment, and other data processing equipment required to assist in the College’s daily functions.

Essential Duties – Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Install, operate and maintain Microsoft, Linux OS and VMware hosts
Install, operate, and maintain Next Generation Firewalls.
Install, operate, and maintain core and edge networking equipment.
Maintain network management systems.
Provide hands-on assistance and troubleshoot IP phone equipment failures.
Assist in the design, installation, and implementation of the network infrastructure, and occasionally perform required general maintenance activities as related.
Maintain and update IP phone infrastructure and components.
Perform related duties as assigned.

An Associate’s degree from an accredited college in Network Communications Technology or equivalent. A minimum of one year experience in maintaining local area networks. Working knowledge of Microsoft, Linux, and a virtual server environment. The ability to set up and configure next generation firewalls, routers, switches and network management software. The ability to perform physical activity required in the performance of the job including but not limited to: occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, use hands and fingers to manipulate or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with arms and hands, frequent standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and walking. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Must be able to hear audible equipment indicators and verbal communications within the work environment. Applicants not meeting this minimum requirement will not be considered for this position.
