New College of Florida invites applications for an Academic Systems Administrator. The Academic Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting the teaching and research needs of New College faculty in multiple disciplines. This includes, but is not limited to, managing server and software installations for numerous faculty, as well as the creation, deployment, and administration of hardware and software in a research-based computing laboratory, an inter-disciplinary research initiative that allows faculty and students to study a wide range of topics in the computing systems space. Many of the tools used in this environment are open source based and require in-depth knowledge of the open source community, its software, and its projects. A bachelor's degree and two years' experience administering Linux-based operating systems. Intermediate knowledge of Linux and Microsoft Server operating system administration, including but not limited to: system installation, configuration and maintenance (RedHat and Ubuntu is preferred); Bash / Shell scripting; Experience with virtualization technology (VMware is preferred); Experience in building servers, both physical and virtual; Experience with system backup software and virtual tape libraries; Functional knowledge working with relational database systems such as MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server; Functional knowledge of core protocols such as TCP/IP, SSH, SMTP, NFS, iSCSI, and DNS.
