Embedded Software Developer

ABB is seeking an Embedded Software Developer who will be responsible for developing the architectural design and testing of technical solutions for the Transformer’s Digital Research and Development Group located in Raleigh, North Carolina. This role requires someone who has experience in Embedding which consists of Linux distributions such as Debian, Yocto, etc.You’ll work as part of our Power Grids team, which serves utility, industrial, and commercial customers with products and services to help distribute electricity efficiently and reliably, maintain power quality, and control and manage electrical networks.

Professionals ( > 2 years of work experience)

Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Lead the embedded software development, integration, and testing of software for multiple large scale transformer digital systems.

* Develop common user interfaces / dashboards consistent with ABB user experience requirements.

* Define/create/maintain technical documentation for the projects based upon customer input.

* Review Software Specifications for adherence to Cyber Security Requirement compatibility.

* Keep project documentation updated.

* Leverage common/scalable solutions consistent with ABB Ability where possible and feasible.

* Help improve operations by conducting systems reviews and recommending changes in policies or procedures.

* Create and manage relationships with third party providers as needed.

* Review progress and deliverables on a regular basis.

* Provide oversight to ensure quality of software development throughout product lifecycle.

* Work with lead system architect on the development of software architecture design and review.

* Escalate issues to the appropriate project or department manager as needed.

* Minimize exposure and risks on projects and implement risk mitigation when required.

* Participate in, and assist team members with a variety of more complex engineering activities.

* Global collaboration with scientists in ABB’s Corporate Research Centers (CRC), Technology Managers and Engineers from the various ABB PGs of the Transformer BU.

Basic Qualification:

* Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in Software Architecture/Development experience required.

* Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.

Preferred Qualification:

* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

* Domain expertise in embedded software design.

* Experience with software development in embedded Linux distributions such as Debian, Yocto, etc.

* Experience in Python, C, C++, C# and other .NET languages.

* Experience with SQLite, MySQL or similar Database environments.

* Strong preference for experience with regulated design and development processes that conform to standards such as ISO 9000, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, DO-178, DO-254

* Experience with requirements management and application/product lifecycle management tools and infrastructure.

* Experience with Software quality oversight throughout product lifecycle.

* Experience with implementation of Machine Learning algorithms is a plus.

* Communication Protocols knowledge eg. MODBUS, MODBUS/TCP, DNP3, IEC 61850, TCP/IP is a plus.

* Understanding of general Cyber Security standards and NIST framework is a plus.
