Hardware Engineer Careers that Change Lives Impact patient outcomes. Come for a job, stay for a career. The Cardiac and Vascular Group brings all of our cardiac and vascular businesses together into one cross-functional, collaborative operating unit to employ the full breadth of our talent, technologies, products, services, and solutions to address the needs of customers and patients across the globe. Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure offers devices and therapies to treat abnormal heart rhythms, as well as cardiac diagnostic and monitoring solutions. Medtronic’s Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure (CRHF) division is looking for a motivated engineer to be part of a high-performing team that is revolutionizing the design and development of medical devices. In this role, you will leverage both your technical breadth and business acumen to accelerate the development, decrease cycle time, reduce cost and increase product quality for Medtronic’s device portfolio. The work you do will impact patients globally and help support Medtronic’s mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life for millions. In this role, you will define, design, integrate and verify embedded system designs (firmware applications operating on microprocessor) used in low-power implantable medical devices and supporting medical instruments. This includes: translating customer needs into specific, well-written design requirements; integrating electrical and mechanical components along with firmware algorithms to diagnose or treat cardiac pathologies; utilizing computer modeling to characterize key design performance traits for simulated clinically relevant use cases; developing and executing tests to verify the design meet requirements; and working with manufacturing organizations to ensure the design is manufacturable and consistently produced. A Day in the Life Deliver technical solutions to routine technical problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practicable and contribute to the completion of project milestones. Complete specific engineering activities by following specific instructions. Work closely in a group of experienced design and verification engineers and effectively communicates on both work status and technical solutions (i.e. explains data, practices, policies). Expected to follow design concept, methods, procedures and standards in the design and verification domain. Specify, design, simulate, and verify significant portions (component to system level) of a design for medical devices or instrumentation in a regulated environment using standard engineering tools and methods. Work with device architects, chips architects, digital designers, analog designers, and firmware designers to integrate and verify a device design in hardware (i.e. printed circuit board, FPGAs) or in simulation (i.e. RTL, Verilog, C). Experience in using typical lab equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, voltmeters, etc.) Use debug tools to identify issues and support root cause analysis. Adhere to and enhances development standards and processes. Prepare and maintain formal documentation. Follow company policies and procedures. Identify and may implement productivity and quality improvements. Must Have: Minimum Qualifications B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field and 2+ years of related experience Familiar with circuit design and circuit simulation tools Familiar with programming languages such as C, C++ Nice to Have Experience using simulation and modeling tools such as Spice, Verilog Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Matlab and Labview Familiar with cardiac anatomy and physiology. About Medtronic Together, we can change healthcare worldwide. At Medtronic, we push the limits of what technology, therapies and services can do to help alleviate pain, restore health and extend life. We challenge ourselves and each other to make tomorrow better than yesterday. It is what makes this an exciting and rewarding place to be. We want to accelerate and advance our ability to create meaningful innovations – but we will only succeed with the right people on our team.
