Position Overview

The Cyber Security Manager position is within the Technology Services Group in the Information Technology division at Freddie Mac. The role provides effective management and technical direction over the Incident Response function. This includes activities ranging across cyber security threat intelligence, vulnerability analysis, incident response activities, and support of advanced threat detection technologies. The role builds, develops, and maintains relationships with internal and external customers, and vendors to formulate solutions for Freddie Mac and customer system issues related to Information Security. It also clearly communicates business unit/department/company goals to staff and works with staff to translate them into specific performance goals. The role must assures the appropriate level of technology, staffing, skill levels, and processes required to deliver high-level information security processes, procedures and solutions to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of Freddie Mac and customer assets. This position reports to the Director of Cyber Security.

Responsibilities include:

• Manage the Incident Response processes and personnel.
• Coordinate response, triage and recovery activities for Information Security events impacting the company’s information technology assets.
• Lead the improvement and development of process/procedure documentation for Incident Response, Threat Intelligence, Next Generation Threat Detection and Malicious Software Analysis.
• Provide thought leadership and guidance to build the necessary controls and infrastructure to provide proactive detection and response.
• Establish communication channels with Information Technology and the Business to evangelize the evolving threat landscape.
• Responsible for the successful stewardship of the Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT).
• Present to different audiences and adjust accordingly (business, technical and executive management) in either structured presentations or ad-hoc.


•8+ years of Information Security or related risk management experience
•4+ years of Security Incident Response experience
•Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Management, related field or equivalent work experience
•Relevant security knowledge and experience in two of the following areas: security operations, incident response, network/host intrusion detection, malware analysis, threat response
•Advanced knowledge of network protocols and operating systems
•Demonstrated experience in handling cyber incidents and response in similar critical environments
•Proficient in preparation of reports, dashboards and documentation
•Experience in leading and managing personnel

Preferred Skills

•CISSP or CISM certification is preferred. Other relevant security certifications will be considered
•CERT® incident handling, GCIH, GCFE, GCFA, GREM, or other security or forensics certification
•Experience in the financial services industry
•Proven ability to lead and influence across and up during business impacting events
•Ability to influence and guide decision making in crisis moments
