Lead Data Scientist

Corvus Insurance seeks a talented Data Scientist who is is proficient in building machine learning solutions to join our early stage company and technology team. We are a dynamic team of entrepreneurial professionals with backgrounds in insurance and technology creating a commercial insurance company that combines the latest technology with traditional insurance. You will be instrumental in building predictive models and risk scores so we can build intelligible insights from our data so we are better able to better price our products and keep our customers safe. You will help Corvus build a team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers as we launch additional products with supplementary datasets. You will report to the CTO.


* You will analyze data from sensors (Internet of Things), Corvus data partners, and insurance systems and be be able to clean, scope and understand the data so we can create risk scores and predictive models to help our underwriters with potential customer selection and policy pricing
* Scoping: you can capture requirements and look at data and figure out whats missing and how to cleanse datasets
* Data Modeling: You will find useful data patterns in our data. You will write production code so that new data is always informing our models and serving our users
* Strategy: You will help develop our overall machine learning strategy and staffing plans
* You will help build the systems infrastructure, database schemas and integrations so we can scale our systems. You keep up to date with relevant research and implement new methods when appropriate
* You will be an active, creative, agile team member that will help Corvus build our CrowBar platform. You will collaborate with our underwriters, product managers, software engineers, designers, and data/business intelligence teams.


* Mid level data scientist, Technical Masters or PhD preferred
* Experience developing and productionizing machine learning models (supervised/unsupervised learning, linear/logistic regression, neural networks, deep learning)
* Strong math, linear algebra and statistical analysis skills
* Experience with open source machine learning tools such as Scikit-Learn, Tensorflow, Keras, H2O, etc.
* Relational database and SQL experience such as Redshift, Postgres, MySQL
* You write readable, quality code
* You’re comfortable working at an early stage startup and are ready to build a greenfield system (no legacy codebase or systems)
* You are curious and able to adapt to different domains
* Insurance industry experience a plus
* You collaborate well with others and are dedicated to the company’s success
