JOB SUMMARY
The Mgr, Technical Design contributes to the overall strategic direction for enterprise-wide technical support and training for the national design centers and regional design teams. Leads both internal direct report and outsourced technical teams supporting supervisors and OSP Designers. Responsible for OPEX and Capital reporting.
Creates, implements and enhances OSP Bentley V8i or other GEO spatial mediums standardized operating practices that are aligned with the company’s initiatives and expectations. In conjunction with the VP, HFC Engineering & Design, Field Operations, provides oversight for technical field support, vendor management, technical training, and contract negotiations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

Develop and deliver training programs to improve the technical proficiency on various drafting and design platforms such as ACAD, LODE, SpatialNet, Bentley Comms, etc. for regional and national design center teams.

Facilitates learning through a variety of delivery methods to develop participants’ skill sets. This includes, Classroom Instruction, Virtual Training, Team Meeting Trainings, Conference Calls, On-line Learning, Hands-on Labs and Peer to Peer Coaching.

Provides feedback to learners and their managers; Follows up with leadership team to ensure the learning translates to performance.

Performs all administrative duties associated with conducting training. This includes, conducting all pre-training prep work, administering learning schedules and calendars, maintaining participant records (e.g., test scores, evaluations and attendance), and performing all required Sum Total prerequisite requirements and post-training duties.

Mentor and advise designers and supervisors on drafting and design standards, processes and drafting and design workflows associated with the various design platforms.

Prioritize defined projects and other workload to deliver technical training and technical support for regional designers and national design center designers.

Acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop and adapt courseware to changes in software releases and standards updates.

Manage the design technical support activities with accountability, focused on company goals and the customer experience.

Serve as the liaison to regional organizations regarding Bentley or other GEO special mediums standards and technical training.

Oversee the day-to-day business activity associated with technical support for regional designers, national design center designers and contractors. Ticket volumes associated with this support averages 18,000 per month.

Develop technical and leadership bench strength within the HFC Engineering and Design organization.

Ensure design engineer solutions adhere to company published standards for OSP design and Bentley V8i or other GEO spatial mediums operation.

Provides oversight of contract labor management, including developing consistent scope of work requirements, assisting with pricing negotiations and providing approvals for contract labor company selection.

Tracks and trends expenditures and approve invoices within budgetary guidelines.

Authorizes company expenditures related to software, and contract labor activities.

Cultivate teamwork and mentorship, internal and external to the Design Engineering team, to encourage solution sharing and knowledge transfer.

Engage in cross-department management at various levels to act as an advocate and liaison for engineering.

Responsible for clear and consistent communication, technical and managerial.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to maintain and develop individual contributors within the team
Strong knowledge of OSP Design, specifically HFC Architecture and Design requirements relating to HFC Architecture and Passive Optical Networks
Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Visio, Project, GIS and drafting & designapplications programs

Education
Bachelor’s degree University and/or equivalent training, education and experience

WORKING CONDITIONS
Office environment
Lifting and transporting training equipment and setting up classrooms
On feet up to eight (8) hours/day in training
Meets same physical requirements as target audience
Exposure to moderate noise levels
Approximately 30 – 50% travel required
