Leidos is seeking a mid-level Network Engineer to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wishes to have a hands-on role in developing communications networks in space involving RF and laser communication links.

As our next Network Engineer, you will work at a customer site on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM. Our Leidos team has a contract to develop and apply network modeling, simulation, and analysis to support development of space-based communication networks and spacecraft communications systems.

For this effort, we are seeking a full-time network engineer to support and lead interactions to design, develop, model, simulate, and test future space networking concepts and systems for existing, emerging, and new space networking architectures and solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide technical analysis, simulation, and expert advice to AFRL’s space communications technical area for existing, emerging, and new space networking architectures and solutions.
  • Support and lead interactions to design, develop, and test future space networking concepts and systems in collaboration with internal and external partners to AFRL.
  • Provide expertise across the 7 layers of the OSI network model.
  • Lead laboratory efforts in networking to include defining what network concepts can be tested in the laboratory environment, designing said experiments, defining required resources, and conducting experiments.
  • Support selection of network hardware and software/firmware needed for developing space-based networks such as routers, switches, encryptors, as well as interface requirements to communication terminals.
  • Develop cost estimates, schedules, technical specifications, and testing for space networking systems and components.
  • Integrate, troubleshoot, improve, and optimize software/hardware as needed for laboratory experiments and network hardware/software systems. 
  • Develop drawings, engineering specifications, and documentation.
  • Author and publish results of experiments in technical reports and refereed journals.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering, with 4 – 8 years of experience with high-speed network design and testing, or MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering, with 2 – 4 years of similar experience.
  • Must be US Citizen able to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Strong knowledge of the 7 layers of the OSI network model.
  • Knowledge of C/C++ software language.
  • Basic knowledge of various test equipment – oscilloscope, voltmeter, logic analyzer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong experience with design, implementation, and troubleshooting of high-speed network configurations.
  • Knowledge of accessing and interfacing with various aerospace power systems.
  • Experience with other programming languages.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB software language.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating system (OS) and RTOSs.
  • Previous or existing DoD/DoE clearance.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,250.00 – $146,875.00
