JOB SCOPE:
Charter is proud to have a network that provides service to millions of users across the country. This is a challenging opportunity to provide operational support to the Charter Spectrum Core Network. The engineer will join a team responsible for 24/7 management and operation of all Core Network routers, switches and other gear. The candidate selected for this position will use their network knowledge and background to apply technical expertise in maintaining and troubleshooting across Charter’s National footprint. Candidate must be flexible to work different shifts as coverage is needed in a 24×7 operations center. They will also work with other departments such as Regional Implementation, ISP, and Principle Engineering, along with vendors (Cisco and Juniper) to manage, maintain and improve the operations and environment of the core network. This position reports to the Manager of Network Core Support Center and does not have any direct reports. The following duty statements are illustrative of the

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain stability, performance, & reliability of a dynamic Core Network.
Prioritize and Resolve events, ensuring proper Root Cause Analysis is performed.
Manage Distribution Projects from conception to completion, identifying risk, documentation gaps, training needs, support and proper maintenance handling.
Identify root cause and direct vendors as necessary for analysis and problem resolution.
Replicate reported network vendor-specific bugs, communicate, write technical bulletins, and document problem resolution.
BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience
Minimum 2 years in a care network/Data network evironment – Cisco and/or Juniper.
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Intermediate knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Physical Media (Multimode Fiber, Singlemode Fiber, UTP, etc.), bridging, switching, routing, ethernet and transport technologies and protocols
Experience with network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
Knowledge of layer 3 routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, IS-IS)
Experience with IP addressing schemes (IPv4 and IPv6)
Efficient knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
Intermediate knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
Basic network devices and basic network appliances
Experience with network designing software, such as Visio
Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
Monitor the Core Network and take necessary fix actions while managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously to meet deadlines.
Communicate professionally in a fast-paced setting while fostering a positive working environment
Excellent internal customer service skills with an ability to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction
Able to respond quickly to a system outage or impairment as required
Timely reporting of information on projects and activities and be able to produce clear and concise written analysis and reports.
Candidate should possess the skills to implement, maintain, and upgrade various applications and the servers they reside on.
Ability to perform critical and analytical thinking
Maintain problem ownership and accountability.
Team player and self-starter
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP or CCIP)
Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)
Knowledge of company products and services
Working Conditions:
Works primarily inside throughout the year in an office-based environment.
Will require long periods of personal computer and verbal telephone use.
Occasionally this job will require standing, walking, bending or stooping.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule with the occasional need for extended hours.
