Job Description Biogen has a large SQL environment with thousands of databases under support, the successful candidate will need to be organized and able to work with multiple versions of SQL and all embedded tools such as SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
The successful candidate will have experience in Availability Group clustering including multi-subnet clusters. Basic networking and Windows skills will be needed and experience with virtualized environments is a plus. The Biogen DBA will be a point of contact for global internal customers and with specialized groups such as Manufacturing and Research with custom requirements. As a regulated industry, there is an emphasis on Change Management, Asset Management, and Compliance including HIPPA, SOX, GDPR, and others. Public cloud expertise experience is a must (AWS and Azure).
Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
Provide 24×7 support for critical production systems.
Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
Perform capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning, backup/recovery, problem isolation, root cause analysis and resolution.
Creating documentation for the Biogen processes, procedures and standards including change management / incident management / release management / service improvements / project documentation.
Co-ordinate with different teams and external vendors to perform day to day administration, implementation and release activities.
Sr DBA with architectural and engineering skills–
Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms
As new systems are brought in-house, choose whether to use clustering, log shipping, mirroring, Azure, or other technologies
Install and configure new SQL Servers on-prem and in Azure and AWS
Deploy database change scripts provided by third party vendors
When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes

Summary The SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a hands-on position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
