Senior Systems Administrator

Gilbert, AZ Blood Systems
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for the management and administration of operating systems and databases that support mission critical regulated and non-regulated computer systems, as well as other high usage applications. Ensures computer system security and 24/7 availability. Collaborates with departments throughout the organization to develop optimal technical solutions that meet business requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.
  • Assures quality customer service to all customers.
  • Assists with work coordination and training and provides guidance to peers, as appropriate.
  • Plans and designs computer system implementation involving computer hardware, operating systems and databases.
  • Develops, manages and evaluates project plans (e.g., computer system implementations, upgrades, capacity plans, system testing, advanced problem resolution, performance monitoring and computer system performance) through to project completion.
  • Develops and manages business critical computer system disaster recovery plans.
  • Evaluates recommendations concerning upgrading business critical computer systems to ensure application availability, security, and optimal performance.
  • Provides input for assigned budget and system life cycle planning.
  • Reviews and approves technical documentation of business critical computer systems.
  • Remains abreast of changes and developments in the industry. Establishes and maintains a network of professional relationships both inside and outside the corporation.
  • Manages the development of system administration logs, operating system standards, processes and procedures in compliance with change control processes, as applicable.
  • Manages the acquisition of third party software, as required, to support the operating system, servers and hardware.
  • Perform all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of storage area networks required.
  • Knowledge of computer server platforms and operating systems required.
  • Knowledge of project planning and capacity planning required.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery processes and procedures required.
Licenses/ Certifications
  • Unix OS certification preferred.
  • Linux OS certification preferred.
  • Windows MCSE certification preferred.
  • Storage Management Certification preferred
Experience
  • With completion of at least one of the certifications listed under Licenses/ Certifications.
  • Five years of experience in the design, implementation and management of business critical computer systems required. To include:
    • Two years of experience in the management and design of storage area networks; Or
    • Without completion of at least one of the certifications listed under Licenses/ Certifications:
      • Ten years of experience in the design, implementation and management of business critical
      • computer systems required. To include:

        • Two years of experience in the management and design of storage area networks
        • Experience in managing complex projects preferred.
        • Experience in leading teams or being team lead on major / complex projects preferred.
        • Experience in developing and using metrics to drive systems and operational performance preferred.
        • Experience with coaching and mentoring peers and junior team members preferred.
        • Experience in working within an ITIL or similar structured framework preferred.
        • Experience in coordinating work efforts with internal or external clients preferred.
        • Experience with SaltStack or other automation tools preferred.
        • Experience with configuration and use of Enterprise Monitoring Packages preferred.
