Job Summary

  • We are in the process of filling open positions for the combined company following CenturyLink’s acquisition of Level 3 Communications. All qualified candidates who express interest by submitting an application to an open posting will be considered. The Sr IT Engineer is responsible for leading the technical relationship of one or more CenturyLink clients. They will provide superior support to a subset of CenturyLink customers in a complex network and/or hosting solutions environment. They will Engineer, implement and troubleshoot operating systems and applications from Operating System perspective. They will also responsible for resolution of incidents to provide maximum availability and optimal Mean Time to Repair (MTTR). They will ensure the Operations Center has all documentation necessary to understand and support their clients.


Job Description

Deliver superior customer service through professional, comprehensive, and timely communication for all Projects, Incidents and Requests for Change

Ensure timely response, escalation, and resolution to promote the rapid restoration of services for all Incidents

Actively participate in day to day support for client environment(s).

Follow and promote the use of CenturyLink global process standards.

Participate in cross functional teams to foster collaboration within and outside of global operations.

Act as a support process leader for the subset of team.

Drive documentation lifecycle for client and technology-specific areas.

Through review and approval, ensure methodical and successful execution of customer change requests

Maintain and improve client loyalty and Net Promoter scores


As Sr IT Engineer in Unix, required skills include design, Implement, document, troubleshoot and maintain one or more of the following technologies:

Expert knowledge of Solaris Operating System, LDOM,Zones and Sun Virtualization.

Expert in File systems and file systems and storage related technologies from hardware perspective, like ZFS, LVM

Expert in Cluster technologies like Redhat or Veritas

Expert troubleshooting skills at the OS as well as OS related network problems.

Hardware and firmware exposure in virtual and physical systems environments: HP, Sun, VMware,

Knowledge of other Operating Systems such as Redhat Linux, HPUX, or AIX

Virtualization: VMware/Sun Virtualization (LDOM)

Common web/middleware support (Apache, JBOSS, Tomcat, Websphere etc.)

Common OS support software`s like SAMBA, Sendmail ,LDAP, Centrify, DNS(BIND).

Experience diagnosing complex issues through packet capture analysis (Wireshark, tcpdump, snoop, Sniffer Pro)

Experience in Analyzing and troubleshooting enterprise wide problems like performance issues, DDOS mitigation at the application layer.

Understanding of DNS concepts and the ability to administer DNS using tools other than Bind.

Knowledge of firewall technologies

Storage technologies and exposure to ISCSI, Fiber channel along with design and implementation experience.

Knowledge of TCP/IP and exposure to routing technologies.

Knowledge of monitoring technologies, like SNMP or agent based monitoring tools like BMC patrol.

Experience in UNIX shell scripting.

Desired Skills:

Project Management experience

Team Leadership

Familiarization with SAS-70 and ITIL guidelines and practices

Education or Equivalent Experience:

Minimum of 8+ years of IT experience or 5+ years of IT Experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a technically relevant field

Minimum of 5+ years of Engineering level experience

Technical certifications are a plus.

**This position can be in Burbank, CA or Broomfield/Denver, CO or can be remote.
