Technical Project Manager

Reston, Virginia Specialists On Call

The Technical Project Manager role will report to the Director of Project Management. The Technical Project Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of growth initiatives across a range of projects related to product management, implementations, and operations. The Technical Project Manager will lead and obtain clear understanding of the project scope, objectives and team member roles and responsibilities while applying standard project management methodologies, tools and practices to ensure successful outcomes/metrics. The Technical Project Manager position is responsible for enterprise, cross-divisional technical projects with a high degree of complexity and risk. Success in this position will require a multi-disciplinary approach with expertise in business development, project management, product management, software development and operations.


* Manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Must understand the technical concepts, architecture, systems, development methods, testing and deployment methodologies for successful execution of projects and products
* Must have strong project management discipline, including development of project plans, assessment and mitigation of risk, effective meeting management and tracking actions and issues
* Ability to lead project and program activities to ensure effective scope, acceptable timing, maximum benefit and quality delivery
* Manage project communications & status reporting (e.g. project performance metrics/KPIs)
* Manage project resources, constraints, and objectives in a consistent and repeatable manner
* Understand enterprise direction and validate business requirements, business processes, and related scope against it
* Manage vendor relationships on projects including budgets and expenses
* Partner with Business, Technology, Operations, and Product to define approach for build phase and/or scripts; maintain master plan and dates for the build phase from start of build to completion, identify operational risks and ensure overall operational readiness prior to launch; develop operational readiness playbook and facilitate Go/No Go meetings upon completing of testing
* Develop slides / decks for senior management team to articulate project status and issues


The perfect candidate will effectively have and/or demonstrate the following competencies:

* Strong Background in software/application development lifecycle, including budget, planning, requirements management, and test procedures

* Must be detail oriented and have great oral and written communication skills
* Strong analytical, problem solving and facilitation/process mapping skills
* Ability to summarize and present information at the appropriate level of detail for the intended audience across various levels in the organization and with partners/vendors
* Ability to build relationships and quickly develop trust with C-level executives
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
* Strong competency utilizing MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, MS Project 2010 and Visio software
* Strong presentation skills and interpersonal skills
* Solid problem solving and consultative skills
* Ability to work independently and take action independently
* Travel 10-15%


* Minimum of 5 years of hands-on project management experience ideally in a Healthcare environment and IT
* Bachelors degree required
* PMP Certified required
* Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
* Experience managing software development projects is preferred
