Regular: A position which is considered essential for the effective long-term operation of the university. Persons appointed to this position will receive the privileges and benefits associated with regular employment status.


UI Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) is seeking an Application Developer to design and/or modify components of complex clinical application systems. Primary duties include workflow analysis, optimization, application build, testing and implementation. Other responsibilities include monitoring production issues, testing special updates, and system documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience as the primary contact for the support, configuration and development of at least one enterprise application; experience working with end-users to define system requirements and understand business needs; ability to write technical specifications for complex integrated systems; and basic project management skills. All positions require use of a pager and providing some 24 x 7 on-call support. This position will work in partnership with the Perioperative Division and Health Care Information Systems.

This Professional & Scientific full-time position will be filled as an Application Developer (PIA2) and is not eligible for H-1b visa sponsorship.

This position will be located at 3281 Ridgeway Drive, Coralville, Iowa.

Education Required:

Bachelor’s in Computer Science or MIS or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience.

Experience Required:

Some current relevant experience, typically 3-5 years, in the development and/or support of applications used by non- technical customers to support and enhance business processes.

Experience contributing to an integrated information system implementation cycle through areas such as design, workflow analysis, build, training, implementation, testing and support

Demonstrated experience working with end-users to define system requirements, understand business needs and convert business requirements into functional/technical specifications for complex integrated systems build

Demonstrated ability using programming languages and tools for customizing vendor application software

Experience working with vendors to analyze system and integration requirements

Experience communicating technical information effectively to technical and non-technical staff at the verbal, written and presentation levels

Demonstrated job-related experience and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience supporting an EMR in a perioperative and procedural, ambulatory or hospital setting

Experience with any of the following:ambulatory or inpatient nursing, physician documentation or procedural and surgical services

Experience working with inventory management systems or Perioperative operational business.

Epic certification related but not limited to the following:Epic Optime, Epic Procedure Orders, EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare Inpatient, Epic Reporting Workbench

Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management

Proven ability to write application test scripts

Experience working with HL7 interfaces, Supply Management systems, Instrument management systems
