A client in the St. Petersburg, FL area is looking for a Applicaiton Support Engineer to join their team. This person will be working in the backend environment of their client facing application. This position will support Tier 3/Tier 4 issues relating to their application running in a Linux environment. They will be working in the Linux OS, troubleshooting issues with Tomcat, Apache webserver, MySQL, etc.. Useful skills include the ability to run scripts to fix issues, detecting issues in logs and monitoring systems, discovering problems and conducting root cause analysis, gathering and sharing info (teamwork), and finding problem trends across many customers.

Programmer, some development
5+ years of experience supporting an enterprise application within a Linux environment

Basic database skills:

simple select statements simple updates (view and change) and understanding of how database works look at data

1 year of scripting would be good.

Know how to create, edit, and run scripts. Bash, Python, and/or Java.

Basic Linux experience

connect to Linux (ssh),

navigate the file system,

basic tasks (start/stop services),

edit files, run scripts, etc.

Apache : web service like HTTP: how it works, how to troubleshoot issues

Tomcat : for application server, where the app lives (java app and this is where it runs, dont need to engineer, just troubleshooting issues that ties in)
