The Center for Data-Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b – d3b.center) is seeking a talented analyst to integrate clinical and biomedical data from multiple sources into shared resources that accelerate advancements in child health. Successful candidates are creative technical problems solvers that excel working with interdisciplinary teams and gaining domain specific knowledge to create robust data solutions. This role requires working with key stakeholders to define best practices, processes, milestones and goals as part of new data integration projects. These projects include working with the data engineering team to improve data platforms and make core processes automated and self-service in order to focus on further improvement and innovation. Knowledge of the clinical and biomedical data domains, models and terminology (especially in oncology) is highly preferred.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Collaborate with biomedical researchers and clinicians to identify and analyze scientific problems that require integration of disparate, highly dimensional data types such as clinical and genomic data.
2. Deliver custom data management, data integration, reporting, and analysis solutions that improve the quality, consistency, and utility of scientific data throughout its lifecycle.
3. Write extract, transform, and load (ETL) procedures that combine and recombine biomedical data into new, more useful formats.
4. Quickly acquire biomedical domain knowledge in order to understand requirements for data integration, optimizing data resources and applications to meet scientific needs.
5. Work on projects and subprojects within larger initiatives, identifying, tracking, and reporting on tasks and deliverables against project timelines.
Required Education and Experience
Required Education: Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Science, Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, Biological Science or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic
At least (1) year of experience in database development, database administration, data management, or related discipline, preferably in a biomedical science or healthcare environment.
Experience with source code management, continuous integration, containerization, and automated testing tools and processes is preferred.
Project management experience preferred.
Previous experience in data modeling, ETL, and applications of highly dimensional data types such as derived from genomics and observational clinical or human subjects research data preferred.
Additional Technical Requirements
Working knowledge of SQL required, including a relational database management systems such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
Working knowledge of Python preferred.
Experience with biomedical or healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, ICD, CPT, HPO, NCIt, SNOMED preferred.
Experience working with Amazon Web Services preferred.
Must exhibit excellent oral, presentation, and written communication skills.
