CMM Programmer

– Summary

Responsible for all CMM programming, setup and inspection of manufactured product to verify conformance to specifications.

Responsible for developing and implementing internal training of CMM System.

Responsible for performing first piece, incoming, in-process, and final inspection, and reporting results in a manner which fully describes the component part, subassembly, or finished product as required.

Performing source inspection at a supplier’s location.
– Duties

Program and operate CMM to ensure accurate and repeatable results.

Define, document and implement a consistent, user friendly format for reporting CMM programs to aid others in understanding inspection results.

Optimize CMM programs to ensure the shortest run-time that effectively and accurately verifies required inspections.

Define, document and implement consistent CMM program methodology for various GD & T requirements.

Maximize CMM part inspection uptime by utilizing off-line programming, scheduling similar part inspections in sequence, utilizing alternate (non-CMM) inspection methods as appropriate, and scheduling routine maintenance/calibration during off-peak hours.

Identify and implement the most appropriate inspection method (CMM or surface plate) for first piece, incoming and/or final inspections.

Develop and implement consistent CMM inspection plans per part number, family or feature.

Utilize laser scanning techniques for inspecting contours of molded parts and assemblies.

Define, document and implement a CMM maintenance program and schedule.

Effectively handle conflicting and/or changing priorities with minimal management involvement so inspection delays are avoided.

Develop, document and implement a basic, intermediate and advanced CMM training program.

Design/request any special fixtures needed to accurately measure parts.

Perform source inspection per government/customer requirements.

Participate in the Material Review Board (MRB) – including developing and processing Discrepant Material Reports (DMRs) and performing part analysis as directed by the MRB members.

Assist with other related duties as required or assigned.

– Specifications

Associates degree in a technical field.

Minimum 7 years experience in a Quality Department of a manufacturing firm.

Minimum 5 years CMM programming experience. Zeiss Calypso software preferred.

Minimum 3 years’ experience performing surface plate layout inspections.

Background in project management experience essential.

Must have complete understanding of ASME Y14.5 (Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

Must currently hold, or have the ability to obtain FAA Repairman certification.

Must currently hold, or have the ability to obtain DMIR (Designated Manufacturing Inspection Representative (DMIR).

Must currently hold, or have the ability to obtain specific customer quality and/or inspection designations such as DQR (Designated Quality Representative and DSI (Delegated Source Inspector.

Competent in the use of common measurement devices such as micrometers, calipers, thread gages, drop indictors, spring testers and optical equipment etc.

Working knowledge of AS9102 and PPAP requirements.

Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14000 and AS9100 and SPC techniques.

Working knowledge of various SPC techniques.

Computer literate in all Microsoft office applications.

Must have strong advanced math skills and be detail oriented.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Strong oral and written communication skills; must have a pleasant and helpful telephone manner.

Requires self-motivation and ability to complete projects with strict guidelines.

Requires the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

Requires the ability to differentiate between colors.

Availability for nonstandard or extended work hours.

Bona Fide Occupational Qualification: Visual acuity test and color vision screening will be performed after offer/acceptance of position. Hiring is contingent upon a passing score of 20/25 (in both eyes) and passing of the color screen.
