Leidos is hiring a Network Engineer to work with a Government-Contractor team providing support to a near real-time, geospatially accurate Common Operating Picture (COP) toolset and associated to support mission requirements. This COP enables sharing and reuse of geospatial intelligence across multiple function areas in support of military operations.

The Network Engineer will:

  • Analyze potential networking configuration issues, performance issues, and bottleneck; or solve other problems with overall engineering of the network.

  • Perform network engineering functions including conceptualization, design, implementation, and optimization.

  • Assess evolving user needs, translating those needs into network changes through network reconfiguration, hardware and software acquisitions, installation and test.

  • In coordination with security and information assurance procedures, implement safeguard measures to prevent damage and unauthorized modification and disclosure.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and maintenance of network communications.

  • Uses knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external networks.

  • Tests and evaluates network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.

  • Responsible for local area, wide area, and virtual private network (VPN) systems, including planning, designing, monitoring, evaluating, and selecting operating systems and protocol suites.

  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.

  • Resolves interoperability problems to obtain operations across all platforms and may include networking devices, e-mail, files transfer, multimedia, telecommunications, hardware and software.

  • Provides batch monitoring, back-up and restoration.

  • Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.

  • Configures systems to user environments.

  • Supports acquisition of hardware and software.

  • Support may also include installing new workstations and/or servers, adding and removing individuals from the list of authorized users, archiving files, overseeing password protection and other security measures and monitoring usage of shared resources.

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of experience OR Master’s Degree and 2 years of experience. 4 years work experience, OR Associate’s Degree plus 2 years of experience, may be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Degree in computer science, Information systems, Engineering, business or related scientific or technical discipline.

  • Two years of related DoD, Military, or US Government related experience – Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • An active secret level security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance is required for this role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to track, analyze, and communicate emerging network software and hardware technology and protocols to a non-technical audience.

  • Security +, CCNA or other related technical certifications.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,250.00 – $146,875.00
