Do Work That Matters

Leidos Australia delivers IT and airborne solutions that protect and advance the Australian way of life.  Our 2000 local experts, backed by our global experience and network of partners, are working to solve the world’s toughest challenges in government, intelligence, defence, aviation, border protection and health markets.

Your New Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced MECM professional to join our engineering capability as a Senior Principal MECM Engineer.

This role represents the highest level of technical leadership within the MECM / Endpoint Engineering domain and is responsible for guiding architectural direction, shaping strategy, and supporting the integrity of large-scale endpoint management environments.

You will contribute as a trusted technical leader, offering expert guidance across complex Defence and enterprise environments, supporting solution design, mentoring engineers, and representing Leidos in senior technical forums.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support end-to-end MECM/SCCM technical architecture across enterprise and Defence environments, helping to define and uphold engineering standards, patterns, and best practices, while guiding the design and evolution of highly available, secure, and scalable platforms, and contributing to technical assurance for solution designs, changes, and major releases.

  • Guide complex engineering delivery and operations, including MECM implementations, upgrades, migrations, and remediations; support the resolution of critical high-risk issues with significant operational impact; and encourage continuous service improvement, automation, optimisation, and advanced reporting and analytics (SQL, PowerShell, Power BI, and direct database interrogation where required).

  • Contribute to governance, assurance, and risk awareness by preparing for and supporting formal engineering and assurance activities (including Microsoft RAPs, audits, and customer reviews), helping ensure alignment with Defence security, configuration management, and change governance requirements, and providing thoughtful input into risk assessments, trade studies, and technical decision-making.

  • Act as a senior technical mentor and leader, serving as a supportive escalation point for engineers, contributing to capability uplift across the wider engineering community, and offering technical leadership without requiring direct line management where needed.

  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, working closely with customer executives, architects, and program leadership; representing Leidos as a subject-matter expert in complex technical forums; and translating business and operational requirements into practical, end-to-end technical solutions.

About You and What You’ll Bring

You are a deeply experienced technical professional with a strong track record working at senior engineering levels in complex, regulated environments. You are comfortable guiding architecture, contributing to important decisions, and sharing accountability for technical outcomes.

You bring:

  • Extensive experience designing, architecting, and operating enterprise-scale MECM/SCCM environments, with the ability to contribute as a technical authority, supported by a strong systems engineering mindset across the full solution lifecycle.

  • Deep technical expertise across endpoint and Microsoft infrastructure, including advanced application packaging, patching, SOE, task sequencing, endpoint security integration, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, WDS, and PowerShell-driven automation-first approaches, alongside enterprise-scale MECM/SCCM operations.

  • Advanced platform and reporting capability, including SQL Server (HA/DR), SSRS, advanced reporting techniques, and experience working within virtualised data-centre environments such as VMware and Citrix.

  • Experience contributing to governance, assurance, and regulated environments, including engineering governance, configuration management, formal review processes, and delivery within Defence or similarly regulated settings.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and influence direction collaboratively, supported by a tertiary qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience, and relevant professional memberships and certifications (highly desirable).

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and hold a NV-1 level security clearance and be willing and able to uplift to NV-2.
