Job Title: Data Center Engineer

  • Job responsibilities will include working with power, rack/cabinet, patch panel, cable, storage, distributed server/appliance, network, security and telco service provider infrastructure. Work closely with Key Bank technology partners, clients, third parties and vendors to deliver the required services as outlined below. As a part of an enterprise Data Center services team, this position will be expected to maintain the highest of data centers standards in support of infrastructure installations including the appearance of cabling, labeling, documentation and asset management.

Job Functions/Required Skills:

  • 2-3 years supporting multiple Enterprise Data Centers.
  • 2-3 years providing layer 1 design and implementation services.
    • Working Knowledge of power management and implementation of power infrastructure to cabinets/racks.
    • Working Knowledge of patch panel infrastructure including fiber optic, coax and copper.
    • Working Knowledge of fiber optic, multi-pair copper and coax backbone cabling
    • Working Knowledge associated with installation and troubleshooting of cross connects both fiber and UTP
    • Working Knowledge associated with installation and troubleshooting of Category 5e, 6, and 6A.
    • Working Knowledge associated with circuit extension, turn-up testing and handoff to operations team for acceptance.
  • 2-3 years installing, troubleshooting, triaging and maintaining network, storage, servers, network and appliance infrastructure in enterprise Data Centers.
  • Provide quality control and verification of compliance with physical layer scope of work.
  • Ability to lift and install server and network equipment 50-100 pounds
  • Strong documentation skills such as the ability to work with Microsoft Office products to ensure operational compliance
  • Willing to travel to corporate headquarters for training and meetings
  • Primary role will be for technician to be on site during normal business hours. However, ability to support 24x7x365 operational services and project related assignments is a requirement and will include off hours and weekend work.
  • Must be a self-starter as will be only full time technicians on site.
  • Provide high level of customer service in support of the KeyBank Data Center services clients, partners and vendors.

Job Grade Specific/Required Skills:

  • Builds, maintains, and documents infrastructure components for work assigned.
  • Participates in the overall health, performance, and availability and actively works resolution of system and client experience impacts for one or more environments, applications, or platforms.
  • Embraces mentorship and training from senior engineers; shares own perspective on KeyBank processes and/or applicable trends and previous experiences.
  • Tests continuous improvement ideas to reduce expenses and/or improve efficiency.
  • Follows and recommends IT standards (e.g. info security, audit, compliance, etc.).
  • Assesses the technical viability of new and existing solutions and capabilities.
  • Contributes to technical documentation, specifications, and project artifacts to deliver: mature monitoring, improved resiliency, and high availability.

Bonus Skills:

  • Familiar with network design and network management best practices including experience with Cisco IOS, NXOS, and IOSXE operating systems.
  • Server and appliance administration working experience required. With specific focus on HP ProLiant Servers/Blades.
  • Knowledge of distribute operating systems such as Windows, Linux and Unix
  • Basic understanding of network services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP.

Skill/Experience/Education

  • 2-3 years supporting multiple Enterprise Data Centers.
  • 2-3 years providing layer 1 design and implementation services.
  • 2-3 years installing, troubleshooting, triaging and maintaining racks, cabinets, patch panels, cabling, storage infrastructure, servers, network infrastructure and OEM appliances in enterprise Data Centers.
  • CompTia A+ and/or Server+ certification a plus
