Maxar is seeking a Data Scientist / Solutions Engineer to work in an agile and fast paced customer environment supporting users whose mission is to solve unique and challenging problems in support of national security. The ideal candidate will be part of a small multi-disciplinary big data analytics team and have the unique opportunity to interact directly with users and other technologists to ensure solutions, development and tools meet the needs of the customer.

Note: US citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph are mandatory for this position and required for consideration.

Location:  Northern Virginia, Maryland, Colorado, Michigan

Principal Responsibilities:

• Conduct Geospatial Analysis of complex problems utilizing an array of data types and sources.
• Create discovery and automation tools to enable geospatial and intelligence analysis of complex problems utilizing an array of data types and sources.  
• Develop enabling software solutions using a variety of scripting languages that address real world user requirements; writes and debugs custom code and creates user documentation.  
• Develop complex tools using a variety of scripting languages that address real world user requirements; writes and debug custom code and create user documentation.
• Familiarity with common industry GIS tools, workflows and plans.
• Monitor and understand high level operational geospatial processes.
• Communicate with multidisciplinary teams and articulate technical concepts and ideas effectively.

Skills Required

• 3-10 years of technical experience with geospatial analyses, including design, programming, and tradecraft development.
  • Familiarity with the some of the following technologies and experience is required
    • Python, R, and/or Java, LINUX, hybrid architecture
  • Experience deploying and maintaining solutions on hybrid or cloud platforms including scaling, deploying, monitoring.
• Capable of working effectively with a geographically distributed ops & development team
• Communicates effectively with customers and team in written and oral forums
• Willingness to work onsite 80% or as needs dictate.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph and US citizenship

Additional Skills Desired

Some familiarity in these areas would be fabulous.

• Understanding of geospatial data formats, overhead imagery, and Agile software development lifecycle
• Familiarity with concepts such as General uncertainty modeling and reasoning / statistics, Spatial analytics; Descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive techniques; Model evaluation; Correlation analysis; Data visualization; Data management
• An adaptable and solution centric mindset

• Can work independently in a dynamic environment, with factory reach-back support.
• Experience working on virtualized LINUX environment on secure government infrastructure
• Experience as a military/intelligence analyst, supporting the military/IC, or knowledge of some IC PED systems is a plus!

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$108,000.00 – $180,000.00 annually.
