DIRECTOR OF DATA MANAGEMENT (Information Technology)

GW Hospital is a 385-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC. Featuring a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Level 3 NICU offers clinical expertise in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neurosciences, women’s health, and advanced surgery including robotic and minimally invasive surgery. (UHS), a King of Prussia, PA-based company that is one of the nation's largest healthcare management companies.  Primary care and specialty outpatient care are available through the Medical Faculty Associates, a multi-specialty physician practice group of more than 750 physicians covering 51 specialty and subspecialty areas. The Medical Faculty Associates' doctors have offices in the Ambulatory Care Center, an outpatient clinic building located one block from the hospital.



This position is responsible for managing the organization’s data efforts, providing vision and strategy for all data management initiatives related to the quality, standards, integrity, reporting, security, and access of data across the organization’s departments. The Dir. Data Management will also facilitate the sharing of information among GWUH and the public, MFA, community physicians, clinics, other care partners and hospitals, and regulatory agencies. He/she will coordinate initiatives that improve GWUH, and its departments’ decision making and management with the use of data. The Dir. Data Management will work very closely with the other leaders within the organization (i.e. the Privacy Officer, legal counsel, Manager of Security, etc.) to ensure all concerns regarding the management of data in its entire lifecycle is addressed and satisfied.



  • Bachelor s degree in Computer/Information Science, data science. Master’s degree is highly preferred.
  • Professional certification in data management is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a healthcare related setting.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience working in mid to large size organizations.
  • Experience in implementation complex data management projects.
  • Minimum of one 7 years software integration and/or custom software experience.



  • Expert knowledge and understanding of service-oriented architectures (SOA), integrating applications and systems, and developing and implementing policies, procedures and standards in managing and sharing data
  • Expert knowledge and experience with enterprise initiatives focused on data-release, cataloging, and applications in addition to government-wide collaboration with OCTO and other District agencies on data-related issues and requirements while achieving exceptional quality standards
  • Experience and technical knowledge and experience working with the latest information technologies and tools to track, collect, purchase and display data
  • Experience and knowledge in managing/leading a data program and data compliance as a data strategist and advisor for improving data quality, liaison for data sharing and developer of new data products for enterprise technology
  • Expert in data integration, data management, data workflow automation, data democratization, data security, and data lifecycle management.
  • Proven record of effective leadership, including the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; building consensus through others not directly under his or her supervision; and working ethically and with integrity.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with information technology professionals as well as senior management, auditors, and other information technologists.
  • Knowledge of healthcare operations and workflow
    • Knowledge of regulatory, security, and privacy policies and standards
    • Ability to work with department leaders and key stakeholders involved in data management and consumption
    • Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Exhibits leadership skills and has performed in a leadership role
