Embedded Software Engineer

The Boeing Research and Technology (BR & T) Avionics Systems Technology (AST) team is seeking a talented, self-motivated embedded software engineer to participate in the develop of future mission systems technologies in the areas of avionics, autonomy, human-systems interfaces and sensor processing. Current areas of focus are advanced mission systems processing, unmanned autonomous vehicle avionics, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) applications, sensor and image processing, small form factor computing and crew station/operator environments. Must be able to take vague requirements and quickly translate them into embedded system solutions by team collaborations with customers.

Projects focus on demonstrating new capabilities and the application of new technologies to existing and future Boeing product lines (e.g. Detect and Avoid, Autonomous Air-to-Air Rendezvous, etc.) Efforts include development of simulation, lab grade and flight prototype embedded environments for maturing and demonstrating electronic hardware systems. The prototype embedded systems will leverage off-the-shelf industry standard embedded form factors such as VPX and PCI, embedded real-time operating systems such as VxWorks and Integrity, and commercial environments such as Windows and Linux. Development efforts can take advantage of the team’s lab facilities including the Electronics Prototyping & Integration Center (EPIC), the Collaborative Autonomous Systems Lab (CASL) and the Human Systems Integration Center (HSIC).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience)

Applicant must have at least 3 years of recent experience in C/C++ real-time embedded software system development and testing.

Desired Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

Real-time embedded software development using VxWorks, Integrity, etc.

Visual Studio C, C++, C#, Java, Qt, Matlab/Simulink, Python

*

Development on Linux and Windows platforms

*

Ethernet networks, MIL-STD-1553, VPX, PCI, and PCIe bus standards and operation

Experience with ROS, unmanned vehicles

*

Lab operations experience desired but not required

Typical Education / Experience:
Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor’s and 5 or more years’ experience, Master’s degree with 3 or more years’ experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
