GEOINT Data Scientist
MANTECH seeks a highly skilled and mission-focused Data Scientist to support mission-critical intelligence operations in Springfield, VA.
This role directly supports national security objectives by applying advanced data science, analytics, and geospatial expertise across GEOINT, multi-INT, and enterprise analytic environments. You will collaborate closely with mission partners to transform complex, high-volume data into actionable intelligence that drives operational and strategic decision-making. In this position, you will support the full data lifecycle from ingestion and integration through analysis, visualization, and dissemination while enabling secure, efficient, and scalable analytic operations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Integrate, centralize, protect, and maintain data within database management systems while collecting, processing, cleaning, structuring, validating, and organizing large volumes of structured and unstructured data from diverse sources.
- Perform ad-hoc, exploratory, and advanced data analyses to examine data from multiple perspectives, identify trends, risks, opportunities, and hidden value, and ensure data is accurate, usable, and mission-relevant.
- Conduct undirected research and translate open-ended mission and customer questions into actionable analytic solutions that support intelligence and operational decision-making.
- Communicate complex quantitative results clearly and effectively through written narratives, visualizations, dashboards, and web-based analytic products tailored to diverse audiences.
- Build, deploy, and maintain dashboards, web-based products, and automated analytics solutions that portray data insights and support ongoing business and mission analytics.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud-based applications and tools to support data migration, production workflows, feature extraction, and metadata generation across raster, vector, text, and database sources.
- Write and maintain Python scripts in ArcGIS and ArcPro, perform data conversion and migration, support Business Process Re-Engineering initiatives, and work with geospatial data in multi-user enterprise environments, including versioned datasets.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of overall professional experience, with the following skills included within that timeframe.
- 3+ years of demonstrated programming experience writing and maintaining Python and JAVA scripts.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience performing geospatial data management, including data type conversion; coordinate systems (latitude/longitude, UTM) and their conversions; and projections and their properties.
- Experience querying and manipulating data using SQL.
- Experience developing and maintaining code using version control tools such as Git.
- Advanced knowledge of data science concepts, including data services, modeling, and analytics.
- Ability to convert unstructured data into structured data suitable for analysis.
- Ability to write SQL to support data integration and analysis efforts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience cleansing, structuring, managing, and validating large-scale datasets, including the use of data quality control tools such as ArcGIS Data Reviewer to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Experience performing advanced data analysis to uncover trends, weaknesses, opportunities, and actionable insights, including developing and maintaining automated analytics and business intelligence solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of ESRI geospatial tools and platforms, including ArcGIS, ArcPro, ArcServer, Workflow Manager (WMX), and Task Assistant Manager (TAM).
- Experience working with geospatial data in enterprise, multi-user environments, including an understanding of symbolization and generalization rules used to portray geospatial features effectively.
- Knowledge of database systems and architectures, including ORACLE, PostgreSQL, NoSQL (MongoDB), and Microsoft Access, along with an understanding of metrics dissemination.
- Understanding of cloud architectures and DevOps principles to support scalable, secure, and efficient analytic and production environments.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and machine learning concepts and their application to advanced analytic and intelligence problems.
Clearance Requirements:
- An active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a polygraph
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Must be able to occasionally move about the office or operational environment to access equipment or collaborate with team members.
- Must be able to frequently communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, including exchanging accurate information and presenting analytic results.
