The Geospatial Project Manager will perform project management functions for the School related to using spatial data, data visualization, and working with ‘big data’ to support ongoing School projects and goals and assist with management, supervision, and external promotion of innovative uses of data acquisition, data analysis, and data visualization. This position will contribute to the efforts to enhance the use of spatial data analysis, collaborate across project teams to pursue new projects, and ensure the Voinovich School remains on the cutting-edge of geospatial technology. This position provides project management support to the School’s Geospatial and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Program which is supported through grant-sponsored research with the State of Ohio and a number of local and federal agencies.
This position will directly apply knowledge of GIS, data visualization, and big data tools to advise communities as part of technical assistance and consulting efforts. This position will compile, analyze, and display data using current GIS, data visualization, and big data techniques and research, extract, and analyze digital data and imagery; create new and leverage existing geospatial databases. This position will also perform GIS application engineering development; customize product generation; perform customer information analysis.
This position is part-time and not eligible for Ohio University provided medical benefits.
Master’s degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, Geology, Biology, Anthropology, Sociology or related fields AND at least 6 years of work experience is required. Candidates may substitute Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of work history and experience deemed to be exemplary for consideration.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel. Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
A demonstrated ability to work in a very dynamic and technically demanding work environment.
Knowledge and proficiency with software, databases, and other tools relevant to the field.
Previous experience in and knowledge of applied GIS, data visualization, and big data work, project management skills, community engagement experience would be strong assets for this position and also preferred.
GIS Professional (GISP) certificate, membership(s) in URISA, OGRIP, etc. are preferable, but not required.
Previous experience in and knowledge of energy and environmental research programs and
energy and environmental policy is preferred but not required.
