Primary Job Function

The IT Director, ERP Programs is a global leader responsible for enabling technology strategy, solutions, and services for Abbott across multiple divisions (AN, CRDx, ADC, EPD, AMD, APOC, MD) covering Commercial, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Logistics, Supply Chain and Compliance. This position will be initially leading programs in the SAP Medical Devices and in the long run must have capability to delivery programs across multiple SAP ERP domains.

The position provides strategic leadership to executive leadership and their teams including the Divisional Vice Presidents and Affiliate General Managers, guiding and leading the Organization in driving standardizing, adopting best in class process towards business transformation, application modernization, cybersecurity, data protection, quality and compliance.

This role requires extensive technical knowledge in SAP Order to Cash and Supply Chain, having configured and delivered WRICEF objects in the domain. The person needs to have extensive knowledge of the complexities in SAP Order management, pricing, product determination, available to promise and logistics functionality.

The position requires a knowledge of end-to-end business processes across Abbott’s diverse business functions (commercial, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, legal, procurement, supply chain), expert knowledge of software delivery methodology, processes and tools, and capabilities within the SAP ERP landscape.  This position requires proven leadership in delivery of SAP ERP solutions and very strong organization and change management experience.

This position will have accountability for managing $30MM+ of ERP programs in the SAP environments.  This position will start with programs in the Medical Devices domain and will eventually transition handling large scape programs across the strategic 7 SAP ERP platforms in Abbott. This position is also responsible to ensure successful migration of the SAP ECC platform to S/4HANA between 2027 – 2030.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • ERP Solution Delivery and Support: Sustain the large-scale SAP ERP Programs and ensures flawless delivery and continuous expansion of the ERP landscape globally, collaborating with all lines of business within the IT organization to ensure good solution / application architecture and design, resourcing, skills and capabilities.  Establishes and maintains support teams to ensure operations and maintenance of the ERP applications and its landscape supporting Abbott globally.
  • Business support – Strategic partner to executive management as it relates to IT solutions in SAP ERP ECC.  Works collaboratively across all functions and IT organizations to understand requirements recommend implementation strategies. Drive innovation to support key strategic initiatives e.g., greenfield manufacturing, margin improvement projects.
  • Program Management – Help in building the next generation ERP technology by collaborating with all functions with BTS (BRM’s, infrastructure, digital, cybersecurity) that supports $12B in revenue globally, $20Bn in intercompany transfers and $4Bn in throughput without any disruption.
  • Technical: SAP Order to Cash and supply chain technical depth and expertise
  • Budget Management – Manages program budget of ~$20MM – $30MM
  • Compliance – Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.  Assure compliance to all internal/external regulatory and policies.
  • Cybersecurity – Responsible for oversight and enforcement of internal security policies and applicable external cyber regulations across functions.
  • Ensure customer and supplier relationships are fostered and strengthened.
  • People Management – Manage a high-performance team of ~100 resources (25 indirect employees and 75 service providers) to deliver a quality set of integrated global services with adherence to standard processes, tools, and service levels.  Negotiate contracts with alliance strategic partners.

Position Accountability / Scope

Span of Business Function Control:

  • This position will support initially medical Devices and would eventually transition to supporting other Abbott divisions (AN, ADC, CRDx, AMD, APOC, EPD & MD), Corporate functions (procurement, international trade, tax) and the global financial planning and shared services teams to define a strategy, roadmap, long-range investment plan and execute on the technological transformation program to support commercial, manufacturing, procurement, finance, quality, logistics, distribution and supply chain processes across various ERP’s.  This position delivers technological solutions across all Divisional functions (Commercial, manufacturing, quality, logistics, distribution, supply chain), Corporate Financial Planning and Reporting, Treasury, Accounts Receivable Management, Corporate Disbursement Operations, Corporate Tax, Corporate Customs, Internal Audit, and Expense Reporting,
  • This position will primarily deliver multiple programs in the SAP Order to Cash and Supply Chain domains.
  • This position will ensure all organizational changes are successfully implemented in all business functions to enable the technological transformation without any impact to business goals.
  • This position reports to the Senior Director – Medical Devices ERP within BSS.
  • This position must have a strong executive presence and strategic mindset, as the role interacts with all levels Directors, DVP’s, General Managers.. This position requires work with cross-functional teams, cross-divisional teams, and global teams across a wide variety of programs for enterprise solutions.
  • This position will define a strategy for implementation and operations of upgrading Medical Devices SAP to the next generation ERP S/4 HANA solution in the cloud, while ensuring all compliance and cyber security postures are strictly maintained for the system.
  • This position oversees at one time, many high visibility projects, products, and processes. 
  • This position requires considerable balancing of demands for ongoing projects and ongoing strategy, with unanticipated demands and delivery of project management solutions across the enterprise. This position deals with external suppliers and agencies on an ongoing basis.

Education and Experience You’ll Bring

  • Bachelors Degree, Computer Science, Business or Related required. Masters / MBA degree preferred.

  • 12+ years of various experience in Information Technology in delivering large scale business transformation programs
  • 10+ years of experience managing globally diverse teams in a large global enterprise
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in implementing SAP ERP transformation programs across large enterprise.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing high performing ERP teams (POD) spanning functional and technical teams across a large global enterprise.
  • Expertise in several integrated business processes across major business functions
  • Experience in integration of SAP systems with non-SAP
  • Expert at Program Management for global, complex, enterprise projects that incorporate integration of functions and technologies.
  • Extensive experience working with IT vendors, suppliers and managed services providers
  • Ability to bring insight, knowledge, best practices, and feedback to strategic discussions
  • Excellent presentation, communication, negotiation, influence, and collaboration skills, with exceptional executive presence.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical and business issues and solutions to multiple organizational levels internally and externally
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and assignments. 
  • Demonstrated experience in building high performing teams.
  • Expert knowledge of business office management, including financial governance, procurement, and contract management
  • Advanced skills in managing teams in a technical environment

The base pay for this position is $147,300.00 – $294,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
