What you’ll be doing.

In this role, you will work on a team of Systems Administrators to work with engineers and implementation teams to build, test, deliver, and manage the 247 availability of the enterprise. Daily focus for the system admin team is to support all Production Linux and ESX VMWare systems hosting Verizon’s internally-developed VoIP application support server complexes. You will apply strong communication skills, team building, conflict management, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to provide technical mentorship to team members and to establish yourself as a trusted advisor to stakeholders.
Analyzing business requirements, operational procedures, and technology resources to solve complex problems.
Providing leadership and mentoring to systems administrators and systems operators in accordance with organizational policies and goals.
Leading support of both Linux and ESX based production environments according to established service levels and technology department objectives.
Enhancing and defining efficiencies for monitoring production Linux and ESX server environments.
Demonstrating efficiencies to improve current monitoring and alerting processes for production Linux and ESX server environments, according to established service levels and technology objectives.
Leading deployments of internally-developed code through pre-production and production environments.
Managing and maintaining OS and related third-party application software patch lifecycles according to compliance requirements and industry best practices.
Supporting a shared 247 on-call schedule for off-hours support (internally developed software deployments and infrastructure upgrades or patches).
Managing system optimization and performance tuning to accommodate rapid, high growth business requirements.
Actively participating in capacity scaling and planning activities to support both existing and new functionality as business requirements evolve.
Continuously evaluating existing security risk exposure and controls to proactively champion new controls for the production and non-production environments in accordance with compliance requirements and industry best practices.
Ensuring cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to without adverse effect to computer environments or to business operations.
What we’re looking for.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Four or more years of relevant work experience.
Even better if you have:
Four or more years of relevant work experience of advanced Linux operating system experience.
Working knowledge of Netscout (Techtronix / Geoprobe) Infinstream and analytic expertise.
Demonstrated history of leading and mentoring team members.
Expertise in maintaining mission critical highly available Linux server environments.
Expertise in supporting virtualized Linux servers in a VMware environment.
Advanced ability to diagnose server hardware, operating system, and application layer problems quickly and effectively.
Experience working with scripting languages and automation technologies: i.e. Shell, Ansible, Python, Perl, SQL, PHP.
Excellent written and oral communication skills within team and cross functional exposure with commitment to production of high quality documentation.
Experience and in-depth knowledge of partnering with business units and operational processing.
Experienced with evaluating and fine tuning IT operational processes and cybersecurity controls.
Excellent collaboration, negotiating, and compromising skills.
Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Demonstrated effectiveness with managing, driving, and executing multiple issues simultaneously.
Empirix and Intelsight or Infinstream and analytic expertise.
Telecommunications industry experience and understanding of SIP.
Working knowledge of Open Stack.
