TITLE: Software Development Specialist 2 SALARY: $72,014.33 – $102,361.07
LOCATION: Central Office, Office of Educational Services – Trenton, NJ
JOB DESCRIPTION: Under limited supervision in a state or local government agency, performs analysis, consulting, design, programming, maintenance, and/or support work on software for information technology services; participates in the resolution of complex problems through consultation with higher-level technical staff; may coordinate projects and serve as a technical mentor/coach to lower level staff; may develop web applications or websites; does other related duties.
More specifically, under limited supervision, the ideal candidate will work out of COHQ and travel to various facilities to perform analysis, consulting, design, programming, maintenance, and/or support work on software and hardware for educational programming. This includes designing and securing networks when providing network access to both the staff and the incarcerated population. This role will provide guidance for exploring both policy and technical components needed for further expansion of technology in correctional educational programming. The ideal candidate will have expertise of relevant operating systems, software and programming for both desktops and mobile devices. This position requires excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills; keen attention to detail; good organization, time management and prioritization. In addition, efficient troubleshooting abilities and effective communication skills, including speaking, writing and active listening are required.
NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Six (6) years of professional experience in programming, systems analysis, or computer analysis.
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
Possession of a master’s degree in an Information Technology field; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.
