Splunk is looking for a Principal Security Software Engineer to work on significant problems in securing the core Splunk engine. We build software that lets you search, report, monitor and analyze live-streaming and historical data across the entire IT infrastructure, from one place and in real time.

You will work within our core development teams to build complex backend security services and ensure we deliver high quality secure code from day one. Ideally, you have an extensive development background (C++ required) and have the interest to progress to be a security engineer.

Your ability to keep up to date on all new development and security challenges and work with our teams to develop protection mechanisms is critical. Ability to dive deep and not just focus on high level architecture overview is required.

You will have a unique opportunity to have major impact on critical and revenue-generating security projects.

Responsibilities

You’ll develop authentication, authorization, and data security features in a large distributed system

You’ll collaborate closely with PM and other engineers to understand customer needs and translate them into product features.

You’ll participate in development of project timelines, implementation design specifications, system flow diagrams, documentation, testing and ongoing support of systems.

You’ll guide and mentor other software engineers specially focusing on software design and architecture

You’ll maintain and improve existing code with a pride of ownership.

You’ll lead large projects and be self-driven

Requirements

8+ years total development experience

Extensive software engineering experience in C++ (Python is a plus)

Experience in advanced development, especially in distributed systems and large, complex system environments deployed at scale

Bonus

Experience in building authentication, authorization, and data security end-to-end products or features

Some experience working with security technologies (SSL/TLS/X.509/SAML/OAuth/JWT/KMIP/PKCS#11/, etc..)

Some experience with low level cryptographic mechanisms like (AES/GCM/PBKDF2/HMAC/SHA2/ etc..)

Education

BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or related engineering discipline, with security emphasis highly preferred.
