What we need  

Symbotic is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our Fleet Operations team. You will play a hands-on role in the development of a suite of applications for our next generation of software which controls fleets of mobile robots and industrial systems. The qualified candidate will play a hands-on role helping to bring our robotics solutions to our customers. We are looking for people who thrive in a creative, collaborative, and agile development environment. They will serve as role models and provide mentorship to the team. 

What we do  

Fleet Operations is a keystone to many core services that enable the fleet of robots to operate. We are a highly collaborative team tying together services directly interacting with robots, routing, tasking, safety, and have direct impact on the fleet productivity. We design the software architecture with quality, thoroughness, and enhancing efficiency in mind, and measure our outcomes for continuous improvement. 

What you’ll do  

  • Design and develop real-time, high-performance, fault tolerant software to control fleets of mobile robots 

  • Analyze and evaluate existing fleet performance and lead technical design projects to increase performance along key business and customer requirements and company KPIs 

  • Take ownership of new features and drive cross team design, implementation and support once deployed to site. 

  • Collaborate with team and drive best practices and improve quality standards 

  • Analyze and address the root cause of issues affecting product performance 

  • Drive project scoping and requirement specification providing senior leadership with deep technical insight needed to create long-term technical roadmaps   

  • Amplify impact through other team members by serving as a technical mentor to guide the team toward innovative solutions and increased productivity

  • Travel required to Distribution Center Sites several times a year, on call support one per quarter  

What you’ll need  

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (i.e. Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, etc.) 

  • Extensive experience with API design and architecture, distributed back-end systems and microservices, or containerization / virtualization 

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience developing software applications 

  • You’ve been building distributed backend applications professionally for 5+ years (experience with performance-critical applications is a strong plus) 

  • You have led complex engineering efforts and know what it takes to deliver while still having a healthy team. 

  • 5+ years of working with C# and .NET Framework  

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm charts 

  • Experience with NoSQL (memcache, Redis, AeroSpike) 

  • Should be comfortable with asynchronous or multithread programming.  

  • Experience with Windows and Linux development.  

  • Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging systems, and protocols (RabbitMQ, MQTT, gRPC) 

  • Experience to work on Agile development methodology 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively represent the derived results and technical concepts to leadership team 

  • Familiarity breaking apart a monolithic application with many interdependent teams 

  • Travel required to Distribution Center sites several times a year 

Our environment 

  • Up to 25% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed bi-weekly
