Role Synopsis

bpx is looking to add a highly motivated, self-starting production and systems engineer looking to tackle some of the most complex and exciting problems facing bp’s North American onshore operations. This role will require leveraging, compiling, and analyzing different data sets to generate in-house solutions and/or influence market solutions to improve production operations safety and production performance through optimization and new technologies. The individual will need to bring a creative mindset to challenge existing ways of working and how data is utilized to create systems and standards used by the business.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with operations teams to identify widespread issues and build data-centric solutions.
  • Create reporting tools that drive actions from insights.
  • Analyze how the business works across various assets and basins to support enterprise standards and workflows.
  • Utilize best practices when it comes to continuous improvement/continuous development for technical solutions.
  • Work with midstream operations and the IT organization as a product owner to provide full life cycle support for in house solutions.

Essential Experience and Education

  • 5-7+ years experience developing, implementing and managing technical solutions supporting industrial Operations
  • Background in data visualization with experience in PowerBI, PI/PI Vision, or Spotfire, etc.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining data queries and custom applications using high-quality, efficient, maintainable, testable code
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS)
  • Familiarity with DevOps standards and tools
  • Experience in data and systems integration
  • Familiarity with Process Control Networks and Systems
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, economics, computer science or another quantitative discipline

Preferred Skills

  • Strong understanding of Oil and Gas Upstream and Midstream operations
  • Strong skills in Python and SQL
  • Experience using DevOps tools to support SAFe Agile, code repositories, CI/CD pipelines, vulnerability scanning and testing, and least privileged access.
  • Experience deploying applications, data stores, and integrations to Azure and/or AWS (PaaS/IaaS), including Microsoft PowerPlatform, Microsoft Dataverse, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working with Snowflake.
  • Experience defining, building and maintaining RESTful APIs and other data integration methods (e.g., bulk file transfers).
  • Experience working with Process Control Systems and Networks and defining/managing their integration with enterprise systems.
  • Experience in Artificial Intelligence concepts, including prompting, agentic workflows, and limitations, particularly when interacting via REST API.

How much do we pay (Base) $193,000-$227,000. Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
