VulcanForms Inc. seeks an R&D CNC Programmer/ Machinist for our Devens, MA location.

Job Purpose

As the R&D CNC Programmer/Machinist at VulcanForms Inc., Devens, MA, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the in-house CNC Machine Shop equipment. This essential function includes programming parts using CAM, setting up tools and fixtures, creating and editing programs, and operating CNC machines that support advanced R&D and pilot production.

Key Accountabilities

  • Machine high-quality parts as requests come in from the Engineering team.
  • Set up, run, and validate programs on the machines within the department to ensure the machining of parts to the correct specifications.
  • Continuously monitor equipment and tooling, and perform preventative maintenance. If a breakdown or other event disrupts productivity, work with outside service contacts to get the machine(s) operational in a timely manner.
  • Mentor other team members and teach all aspects of CNC machining best practices, fixturing, and CAM.
  • Consult with members of the Engineering team to optimize mechanical designs for manufacturability.
  • Interface and communicate with Quality, Engineering, and other team members.
  • Maintain the shop and keep equipment clean and organized.
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety regulations related to the CNC machine(s), equipment, tooling, materials, and chemicals within the shop.
  • Adhere to and enforce VulcanForms' quality policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with a Vertical or Horizontal CNC Milling Center or live tooling lathe
  • 5+ years of CNC programming in MasterCAM or similar CAM Software
  • Experience in preventative maintenance and maintenance of CNC machines and tooling
  • Ability to read drawings/blueprints and understand GD&T
  • Detail-oriented and consistent

Preferred

  • Graduate of Advanced Machine Technology Course
  • 5-Axis Machining
  • Experience machining parts with tolerances less than 10 microns
  • Experience with prototype or quick-turn piece work
  • Experience machining parts for optomechanical systems
  • Knowledge of metrology and inspection methods and equipment
  • Knowledge of 5S/6S
  • Willingness to work with supervisors or cross-department requests for process improvements
