IT Services (ITS) at Iowa State is seeking applicants for a Security Architect. This position will help define, architect and oversee implementation of security of campus systems including network and endpoint devices. This role has responsibility for serving as a subject matter expert in Next-Generation Firewall products (NGFW) and malware sandboxing. The individual will serve as the owner for the security requirements for product delivery, deployment and quality assurance processes, in addition to serving as the owner of the chosen products from a configuration management perspective. The individual will work collaboratively with the IT teams in ITS and across campus and with vendors to deploy and operate threat management products at an enterprise level. A thorough knowledge of firewall policy implementation is required.
Duties include firewall approvals, evaluating network technologies and network protocols, developing and/or recommending security requirements for routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, and wireless technologies.
This position may be hired at different levels. In addition to the responsibilities noted above, the senior level position will lead and develop staff.
ITS provides core computing, network services, enterprise systems, and information security resources to the students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State. ITS partners with IT professionals from around campus to provide more specialized IT resources to ISU’s academic and business units.

Applicants must also possess strong time management, organizational skills, and decision making skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems.
|Preferred Education and Experience||Experience providing security risk mitigation solutions.
Experience that demonstrates knowledge about Next Generation Firewall Security policy implementation.
Experience configuring policies on firewalls.
Experience configuring network appliances , preferably Cisco.
Experience with PERL, Python, and Shell Scripting.
Experience with Windows, Mac and Redhat Linux environments.
Experience with NIST publications related to Network Risk and Security.
Experience with technology related to SaaS, PaaS and IaaS in context of cloud, wireless, mobile and IoT.
Experience with IT security devices such as Snort/Bro IDS/IPS, Nexpose, Cisco SSL–VPN, NAC products
Experience with architecture specification and secure network protocols.
Experience that demonstrates an understanding of common networking security and protocols such as HTTP, SSL, FTPand etc.
Experience with configuration and change management requirements and processes in mission critical environments.
CCNA,CCNP or equivalent certification preferred.
