We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Data Analyst.

The New York University School of Medicines Department of Population Health (DPH) is a dynamic environment of excellence, innovation and growth with faculty across a wide range of disciplines including behavioral and social sciences, epidemiology, health services research, evaluation, biostatistics, and medical ethics with a particular focus on health equity.

The Health Evaluation and Analytics Lab (HEAL) is a unique research resource that contains New York Medicaid and other state administrative data to support studies of health and healthcare. HEAL is a joint venture between DPH and the NYU Wagner School of Public Service. The mission of HEAL is to conduct research and evaluations that assist in the administration of the New York Medicaid program and contribute to national scholarship on health and healthcare.
Position Summary:
We are hiring a Senior Data Analyst to work with large data on research to improve healthcare for New Yorkers. The analyst will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in a world-class research institution to address questions of health and health equity.
Using advanced statistical techniques and programming skills, the Senior Data Analyst will conduct analyses with large datasets that inform the administration of the New York Medicaid program and contribute to national scholarship on health and healthcare.The team works on many different studies of health and healthcare across diverse topics (e.g., specific health conditions, disparities in care). The Senior Data Analyst will work alongside four faculty members and independently lead, develop and complete analyses of large administrative datasets for descriptive and inferential studies. These studies can include estimation of program effects, describing characteristics of populations and their healthcare, and tracking disease trends. The role responsibilities include making decisions and recommendations about techniques, scope, and approaches appropriate to the research project.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Work effectively with New York State Medicaid and other large, complex administrative datasets to solve challenging problems 

    • Efficiently query and maintain large administrative data; write programs to clean complex data and create analytic datasets from raw data 

    • Help define scope of research questions, design of research approach, and use of appropriate statistical methods 

    • Clearly communicate processes used and results achieved to technical and non-technical audiences; lead critical discussions of results and techniques 

    • Detect and address complex issues in data and analytics, suggest new and alternative approaches to solve problems 

    • Maintain knowledge of current statistical debates and new methodological approaches, and techniques, and apply to research and statistical analyses 

    • Advise and guide staff and students in data management and analytics techniques; supervise review process for all analytical output that is shared with outside partners 

    • Contribute data visualizations and written procedures to scientific papers, reports, and presentations, as well as grant proposals 

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Masters degree in a quantitative discipline (Biomedical or Clinical Informatics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Statistics, Mathematics or similar field) and 3 years of experience in data science.
– Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
– Strong time-management and prioritization skills; ability to work well under pressure and in a team;
– Experience working with key secondary data sources;
– Skilled in large-scale data wrangling;
– Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, R, Stata, SQL) and visualization tools (e.g. Tableau)

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $63,935.04 – $90,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
