Senior Data Analyst – Department of Urology

Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a full-time Senior Data Analyst.


In this role, the senior data analyst will be a critical member of our urology research team to assist with study design, data processing, data analysis, and model deployment. The focus of the research will be using electronic health record data to study patterns of diagnoses and outcomes in urologic diseases, with a specific focus on machine learning methods. This individual will be working primarily in the Department of Urology, with potential oversight from principal investigators with joint appointments in the Department of Population Health.

Job Responsibilities:

* Translate end-user data requests into technical specifications and specific data elements required for data set, report, or data mart development.

* Elicit requirements for new reporting and data requests by interacting with end users.

* Writing SQL queries to profile data sources and to extract data to fulfill data requests.

* Test and validate the content of reports and data extracts.  Ensure that customers are satisfied with data provided to them.

* Oversee all activities related to data cleansing, data quality, and data validation using industry standards and processes. 

* Create and maintain value sets needed for various research use cases.

* Assist with preparing data tables for and writing portions of reports.

* Perform data analyses with machine learning and statistical methods.

* Deploy predictive models.

* Actively participates in weekly team meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred (see preferred qualifications).

Preferred Qualifications:

*Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with electronic health record (EHR) and/or healthcare claims data; experience with Epics Clarity & Caboodle databases is strongly preferred.

*Experienced Python programmer.

*Prior experience querying databases with at least basic to intermediate SQL scripting, with the interest and ability to learn various SQL dialects (e.g., Impala SQL, Microsoft Transact-SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL).

*Prior experience creating, structuring, cleansing, and validating data sets suitable for statistical analysis.

*Knowledge of varied statistical analysis and modeling techniques.

*Fast learner with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Helpful but not required:

*Prior experience working in a research environment and/or knowledge of research Common Data Models (e.g., OMOP, i2b2, PCORnet, ACT); experience with the OMOP Common Data Model is a plus.

 *Prior experience working with healthcare terminologies and code sets (e.g., ICD-10, RxNorm, LOINC, CPT), and building or using value sets for specific reporting use cases.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $63,935.04– $80,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
