The role for Senior Software Engineer is a senior level contributor who will support and oversee various software and data engineering efforts. This individual must have a demonstrated expertise in a wide range of technologies, IT concepts, and practices. Development environments will be primarily focused on but not limited to NoSQL databases and the related management and analysis of data related services. Ability to design and lead the development of complex solutions often requiring third party integrations, KPIs and analytics, combined with a detailed knowledge of the related business process. Daily involvement overseeing outside consultants and potentially offshore resources.

* Responsible for architecting, developing, and maintaining solutions within Suffolk’s enterprise NoSQL database (e.g., MarkLogic ‘data lake’)
* Proficient in the use of XML, JSON, and related query languages such as XPath and XQuery to support various datadriven requests. Background with related programming languages such as Python and Java strongly preferred.
* Ability to meet different technical specifications with minimal supervision. This includes designing, documenting, and building out scalable data models
* Serve as the liaison between the Infrastructure and Applications group to ensure scalable, secure ‘data lake’ solutions that meet Suffolk standards.
* Manage technical projects requiring coordination across multiple departments and resources.
* Conduct code and design reviews, help establish and implement technical standards across IT.
* Works with and helps manage outside consultants to deliver project work.
* Willing to learn new technologies and business processes as necessary as well as train others.
* Communicates clearly and professionally with users, peers, and all levels of management to resolve technical and functional issues
* Lead design workshops with business users and gather key requirements


* 4+ years of experience in software development and data analysis in a large enterprise environment
* Background with noSQL database development and support, MarkLogic strongly preferred
* Track record of writing and communicating complex technical and functional requirements. This could include network and data ‘ERD’ diagrams.
* Background in infrastructure and networking as it relates to sizing and scaling services
* Project management with strong written and verbal communication skills required
* Self-motivated and organized with the ability to work with minimal supervision

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking.
