US Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation System eXtended (US BICES-X) is a cutting-edge program supporting DoD intelligence information sharing on current and emerging global threats to mission and coalition partners and emerging nations. The Senior Systems Engineer is a strong, self-motivated, solution-oriented individual who will be joining an experienced team to support the implementation and sustainment of multiple networks. We are looking for an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic systems engineer to join us in delivering high quality IT systems.
Responsibilities:
- Automate installation of software using tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Bash, and/or Python
- Provide higher tier support and in-depth hardware and OS troubleshooting, configuration, backup, security measures, backup, and disaster recovery services.
- Develop advanced Linux-based solutions in support of enterprise level systems to include local repository management, centralized user management, multifactor authentication, DNS, DHCP, time services, security automation, and enterprise-wide log collection, monitoring, and analysis.
- Develop installation procedures and automation for Red Hat infrastructure and third-party software.
- Develop strategies and automation to maintain the security posture of all Linux resources to a level consistent with a DISA reportable systems.
- Develop methods for deploying development environments that mirror production environments for risk mitigation in test and evaluation of software and hardware solutions.
- Develop and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux baseline images for deployment in disconnected secure environments.
- Develop and provide documentation and training to System Administrators of various Linux based technical solutions.
- Determine system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
- Provide input and participation in briefings, transitioning concepts to execution, course of action (COA) development, and assisting in project technical planning and implementation.
- Develop and maintain standard operation procedures (SOPs) and system documentation.
- Collaborate with managers, network and systems engineers, team members, and customers on solutions and issues.
- Review, analyze, and verify current security configuration and effectiveness in response to DoD requirements and emerging threats.
- Achieve and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance.
- Continuous improvement mindset to ensure quality of delivered services.
- Mentor and coach less experienced team members.
- May be required to perform duties outside of normal day shift hours to include weekends/holidays.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in building, maintaining, and supporting Red Hat Linux technologies and related platforms: Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible), Cron Jobs, RHDIM, Bind 9, GitLab, Apache web server management, Firewall Management Knowledge, and shell scripting.
- BA/BS Degree – may substitute additional years of experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience with VMware related technologies
- Active TS/SCI clearance
- Must be IAT level II compliant with DoD 8570.1
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- Proficiency with automation/scripting languages Puppet, Ansible, Bash, etc.
- Proficiency working in a team with Git source control manager.
- Experience with Linux System Administration and Linux System Hardening.
- Experience with RHEL 7/8/9 OS platform.
- A demonstrated strong working knowledge of Virtual infrastructure technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools such as Azure DevOps, Azure Pipelines, or GitLab
- Experience delivering solutions in accordance with agile and waterfall methodologies.

The likely salary range for this position is $101,566 – $116,495. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
Total compensation for international positions varies by tax, social security, and immigration statuses, as well as location. Generally, an international assignment may include allowances, premium uplifts, and/or relocation or transportation benefits, above base salary range noted.
