This person would be a Project focused Systems Engineer at Ultra Maritime located in Quincy and Braintree, MA. In this position, this person would support the design, testing, and manufacturing of products for Ultra on items for the Navy and commercial customers. Typical work would be to create or review requirements to support the design and testing of Sonar or Radar Products and various other sensors, as well as to develop and execute test plans and procedures to verify product requirements with a focus on hardware aspects of systems. A professional at this grade applies technical / professional knowledge, making independent judgements based on practice and significant previous experience to support decision making. Often seen as a referral point or more senior team member to escalate more complex problems. Communication of issues across all program aspects with recommendations to project leadership is a key responsibility.

Job Description:

  • Define system requirements and functional system requirements, documents specifications, identifies requirements flow down, design and architecture development, and requirements traceability
  • Project engineering lead on development and production projects
  • Responsible for execution budgets and cost account management with monthly updates to the project Integrated Master Schedule
  • Comfortable with in-person presentations to the customer
  • Test planning and procedure development
  • Verification and validation of complex electromechanical systems
  • Develops, calibrates, and tests new designs and techniques;
  • Data analysis and report writing to document developments and tests
  • Understanding and reporting on schedule and cost issues arising from system design and troubleshooting. Raise cost and scope growth issues to Program Management
  • Time management skills to meet program deadlines and manage team deliverables
  • Ability and willingness to travel typically at 15%
  • Ability to support on-site team interactions as well as hardware manufacturing and test.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems//Mechanical/Electrical/Physics/Ocean Engineering or appropriate field with 10+ years experience or 8+ years experience with a Masters of Science.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment is required
  • Active (or has ability to obtain a) security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens

  • Leadership experience, especially technical leadership and leadership by influence
  • Experience in a design role preferably of low volume, high-value equipment
  • Track record of developing innovative solutions for complex problems
  • Strong communications skills (written and oral) to lead team meetings and interface with customers and management

  • Proposal experience including labor estimation and creating a Basis of Estimates (BOE). Ability to validate or peer review other BOEs.

  • Experience planning and executing off-site test events (i.e. at customer sites or at sea)
  • LabVIEW, Matlab, DOORS, or Python, experience optional
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) optional
  • Experience with underwater acoustics, sonar systems and/or radar systems optional
