Site Reliability Engineer

The Site Reliability and Integration Engineer position requires a mix of strategic engineering and design along with hands-on technical project work. Your remit will involve hands-on Site Reliability work, but with a focus on improving efficiencies, and replace as far as possible manual tasks with automated solutions. The engineer will work closely with systems engineers, network engineers, database administrators, developers, quality assurance, and information security teams. For this position, strict application security and high availability requirements should be balanced to achieve optimal solutions.

Key Qualifications
  • Significant experience with DevOps/SRE tools, processes, and culture
  • Extensive hands-on experience in a large-scale Unix/Linux environment
  • Understanding of Web Services API’s, Internet architecture, and software development.
  • Experience with configuration management tools, e.g. Puppet, Chef
  • Experience with orchestration tools, e.g. Ansible, Salt
  • Experience with source control tools, e.g. GitHub
  • Experience with CI/CD toolsets, e.g. TeamCity, Jenkins
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Nagios, Graphite, ELK etc. highly preferred
  • Experience with Docker & Nomad advantageous
  • Ideally experience with Linux shells and scripting languages, e.g. Bash, Python, Perl
  • Understanding of standard networking protocols and components such as: HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, ICMP and Load Balancing
  • Good understanding of Java is a major plus
  • Working knowledge of RMDBs is highly helpful
  • Understanding of PKI, cryptography, and HSMs is a plus
  • A systematic, test-and-measure approach to continually improving operations
  • Track record of practical problem solving, excellent communication, and documentation skills
  • Self-motivated and self-managed with a high degree of dependability
  • Familiarity with change control, delivery pipelines, release procedures and tools
You’ll be self-driven with a passion for perfection, quality and detail. This person will need to gain a hands-on understanding of key day-to-day operational support and change tasks, working closely with fellow engineers to provide optimal solutions.
Education & Experience
A BS in engineering, computer science or other technical discipline is required
Additional Requirements
  • Extensive experience in solution integration/delivering, testing, and interfacing with customers.
  • Strong knowledge of APIs, SDKs, scripting, and ETL.
  • Ability to thoroughly document the custom solution down to API calls.
  • A desire to ensure the best quality possible customer experience at all times
  • A passion to identify processes that can be automated and improved
  • A drive to automate infrastructure solutions and deliver infrastructure-as-code
  • An ability to understand complex systems and strive to constantly make things better
  • Able to work with existing toolsets, and optimize their usage
  • Identify toolset coverage gaps and identify suitable offerings
  • Determine optimal configurations for application software, application servers, database connections and indexes, HSM drivers, etc.
  • Deploy, support and monitor new toolsets, platforms and application stacks
  • Set priorities and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Measure and optimize system performance
  • Explore and evaluate new technologies and solutions to push the capabilities forward, getting ahead of customers’ needs, innovate and continually improve
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple business and technical teams
  • Demonstrate ability to deliver results on time with high quality
  • Provide data to demonstrably measure improvements
