Software Engineer (Front End Development focus)

What you’ll do:

The Retirement and Income Solutions (RIS) Participant Onboarding area has a new Software Engineer opportunity with a Front End Development focus that will be instrumental in contributing to the advancement of customer experience, specifically within our Participant Real Start and Participant Site experiences that help retirement plan participants have the confidence to save enough, achieve their financial goals, rollover and make investment decisions with ease.

As a Software Engineer with a Front End focus, you’ll solve business problems through technology as part of a scrum team. You will need to be flexible, adaptable, and collaborative to deliver innovative solutions and provide ongoing support of our systems.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include:
Deliver high quality customer centric solutions that incorporate desired capabilities, security, scalability, and performance
Collaborate with your scrum team to solve interesting and complex problems to create a positive customer experience
Work within agile methodology and participate in agile ceremonies like sprint planning, backlog grooming and daily stand-ups.
Collaborate with architecture, technical engineers, and other roles on application design and architecture.
Develop web based applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Jquery, Bootstrap, Backbone, Dust.js & React.
Develop maintainable and high quality software by integrating automation tests and following best practices as laid out by the team.
Own continuous improvement in yourself, your team and the solutions you build
This role will require on-call rotation

Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math related field or equivalent work experience (6 years of experience equates to an Associate’s degree when defining equivalent work experience)
2+ years of Front End development experience with the technologies: JavaScript, HTML, CSS
Experience with source control management tools (i.e. Git)

Additional preferred technical experience (any experience would be a plus):
Full stack development experience
Process automation (i.e. npm scripts, webpack)
JavaScript testing (i.e. Jest, QUnit, Mocha, Jasmine)
Code quality tooling (i.e. eslint, scss-lint)
JavaScript module systems (i.e. esm, AMD, CommonJS)
CSS preprocessors (i.e. Sass, Less)
Debugging (i.e. Chrome Dev Tools)
Familiarity with front-end libraries and frameworks (i.e. Angular) React, Backbone
Knowledge of standard methodologies for accessibility and application performance
Experience in server side application frameworks (i.e. Spring MVC, Rails) JSF, .NET MVC

Location:

This position is primarily located in our corporate headquarters in Des Moines, IA but would consider remote candidates.
