Overview

As the Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing programs as required, to support the technical capabilities at Cox Automotive. This includes both the development of new programs and maintaining existing programs. In the role of Software Engineer, you will be expected to deliver timely responses to production issues, taking ownership of effectively seeing these issues through resolution. To be successful in the role of Software Engineer you must be able to work effectively in a fluid, fast-paced environment while maintaining good communication with management and team members.

The Job:
As a Software Engineer on the Irvine Media Analytics Product team, you will design and develop robust and scalable analytics processing applications. You will implement data access services that operate with maximum throughput and minimum latency.

You will be an accomplished, well-rounded developer with a solid understanding of the appropriate use of best practices and frameworks for high volume data processing and analytics. You will be passionate about exploring the use of innovative technologies and techniques and evaluating them for suitability in our environment. You will have a strong interest in data science, with some experience and/or classwork in the data science field.

Data Science Languages/Tools: Python, R, SciKit, Jupyter Notebook
Amazon: AWS SDK, SageMaker, EMR, EC2, S3, Elastic Beanstalk, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and more
Other DevOps Tools: Jenkins, PagerDuty
Responsibilities:
Design and develop code that consistently adheres to good programming practices
Design, develop, and maintain high volume Scala/Java based data processing jobs using industry standard tools and frameworks in the AWS ecosystem
Work directly with our data science team, assisting them with various aspects of the data science lifecycle, including data acquisition and understanding, operationalizing the models, and performance tuning
Design and maintain schemas in our analytics data stores
Write efficient SQL for loading and querying data
Collaborate with product managers and technologists to solve business problems
Live by Agile (particularly Scrum) principles and collaborate with team members using Agile techniques including test driven development, code reviews, and retrospectives

Qualifications

Passionate technologists with an innovative mindset
Degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent experience
1+ years of professional application development experience with a proven ability to deliver projects on time
Strong Scala, Java and/or C skills
Keen aptitude for large-scale data analysis with a talent for extracting key insights from data
Statistics background is a plus
Experience with designing and implementing high volume data processing jobs is a plus
Strong database development skills, including advanced SQL, relational and NoSQL database technologies
Experience designing and developing platform level components including event architectures, messaging, and caching is a plus
Experience with AWS technologies is a plus
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with an understanding of common mathematical principles used in statistical analysis
Proven ability to work independently designing, developing and deploying solutions with minimal direction

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
