Program Summary:

The Corporate Internship Program at Great Wolf is a 10-week program that provides college students with paid, meaningful experience that compliments their current coursework. Through an experiential and structured approach to learning, interns will gain hands-on experience with real-life work that is tied to the success of the team and Great Wolf's purpose of Bringing Joy to Families. In addition to meaningful assignments and working in a supportive business environment, students will be invited to participate in professional development opportunities, social activities to get to know fellow Pack Members and build relationships across other departments, and more. Students can expect regular mentorship and feedback to help develop the skills and experience that will position them to grow in their career area of choice. 

Internship Summary:

The Software Engineering Intern will collaborate closely with the Digital Engineering and Product teams at Great Wolf Lodge's Corporate Headquarters in Chicago, IL gaining hands-on experience working on projects that impact digital and product strategies. Intern will have an exclusive chance to engage in a variety of projects encompassing mobile app and web development, as well as backend systems, all the while benefitting from mentorship provided by experienced professionals in the field, including the Director of Digital Engineering, department Directors, and Vice Presidents.

Experiences You Will Gain: 

  • Collaborate closely with both backend and frontend developers within the digital engineering team, fostering teamwork and learning how to effectively work within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Gain hands-on experience with migrating legacy hospitality systems to cloud-based Above Property Management systems and Opera PMS Cloudversions, gaining insight into the complexities and nuances of such transitions.
  • Contribute to the development of customer-facing digital technology solutions, allowing for practical application of software engineering skills in a real-world setting.
  • Acquire knowledge about the Point of Sale (POS) systems utilized at Great Wolf Lodge, understanding their functionalities, integrations, and implications for overall guest experience and operational efficiency.
  • Gain exposure to DevOps tools and technologies such as Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, API gateways, and API documentation tools, acquiring valuable skills in containerization, orchestration, infrastructure as code, and thorough API documentation practices.
  • Engage in CI/CD practices, automating software builds, testing, and deployment using Azure DevOps for integrated documentation within the engineering workflow.
  • Foster a culture of cooperation and continuous improvement by integrating DevOps concepts with digital Digital Engineering and product Product teams, emphasizing efficient API administration and documentation.   

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, with a focus on software engineering (rising Junior or Senior preferred)
  • Unrestricted work authorization in the United States (sponsorship not provided) 
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid environment out of the downtown Chicago corporate office 
  • All employment offers contingent upon a successful background check 

Desired Qualifications & Traits

  • Familiarity with AEM content management systems is a plus.
  • Proficiency in .NET framework and C# programming language or similar.
  • Full-stack web development experience including front-end frameworks such as React.
  • Familiarity with website performance optimization techniques such as image optimization, code minification, caching strategies, and browser rendering optimizations.
  • Experience or willingness to learn about API documentation tools like Spotlight.
  • Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts, preferably with experience in Azure.
