Job Description

We are looking for a SQL Server Database Architect to design, develop, and implement infrastructure to provide highly complex, reliable, and scalable databases that meet our organization’s objectives and requirements. This position will be Full-Time and Hybrid (3 days/week onsite) and is a long term, ongoing contract.

What You’ll Do

Database Architecture and Design (30%)

  • Design target SQL Server database architecture

  • Design normalized schemas across multiple databases

  • Develop data partitioning strategies for large tables (50M+ records)

  • Create database security architecture, audit trail, and history tracking mechanisms

  • Establish backup and recovery architecture

  • Design high availability and disaster recovery solutions

Data Migration (25%)

  • Develop comprehensive data migration strategies

  • Create ETL processes for migrating large volumes of data

  • Design and implement data validation procedures to ensure zero data loss

  • Develop rollback and recovery procedures

  • Perform data quality assessment and cleansing

  • Coordinate with developers on core integration with business logic

Performance Optimization (20%)

  • Design indexing strategies for optimal performance

  • Optimize queries for sub-second response times

  • Tune stored procedures and functions

  • Conduct performance testing and resolve bottlenecks

  • Implement caching strategies and table partitioning for large datasets

Database Administration (15%)

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances

  • Implement security policies and access controls

  • Monitor database health and performance

  • Manage database growth and capacity planning

  • Perform database maintenance, including index rebuilds and statistics updates

High Availability and Disaster Recovery (10%)

  • Implement SQL Server Always On Availability Groups

  • Design and test disaster recovery procedures (achieving RPO < 1 hour, RTO < 1 hour)

  • Configure database replication and automated failover mechanisms

  • Conduct DR testing and validation

What You’ll Need

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of SQL Server administration experience

  • Expert knowledge of SQL Server 2019/2022

  • Advanced T-SQL programming (stored procedures, functions, triggers, views)

  • Proficiency in database design and normalization (1NF through 5NF)

  • High availability and disaster recovery expertise (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication)

  • Performance tuning and optimization (query tuning, index optimization, execution plan analysis)

  • Cloud database experience (3+ years with AWS RDS for SQL Server or Azure SQL)

  • Experience with large-scale data migrations (500GB+), including ETL tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, AWS DMS)

  • Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, T-SQL, CI/CD for database deployments)

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies

  • Experience in high-transaction environments (50K+ daily transactions)

  • Led or participated in database modernization projects

  • Experience with mission-critical systems requiring 99.9% uptime

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of various database systems and hands-on experience with all phases of database design and management

  • Experience in various technologies and roles including database systems of any type and size

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

  • Must be able to communicate with customers and team members over the phone and in person

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings

$50.00 – $55.00 per hour

The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
