Job Summary

Provides improvement, analytic and project management support for quality and operational improvement projects across the 18 medical specialties in the Department of Pediatrics in collaboration with project team, administrative and clinical leaders.

Serves as a subject matter expert in improvement methods (model for improvement, lean and six sigma), providing education and mentorship for resident and fellow trainees as well as faculty and staff to build capacity for improvement work and sustainability.

Provides consultation to specialist physicians and administrators regarding improvement opportunities, including performance gap analysis, measure feasibility studies, trigger identification etc. to ensure project success for both centrally resourced and de-centralized projects.

Works collaboratively with leaders from the Office of Safety and Medical Operations, the Office of Clinical Quality Improvement, Analytics and Reporting and other departments across the organization to facilitate project completion.

Job Responsibilities

– Project Management:

– Develop, manage and execute work plans using appropriate project management tools and concepts.
– Collaborate with leaders to set priorities for tasks based on importance and urgency.
– Provide direction and guidance to team members on creation of project deliverables.
– Develop ongoing project reports and updates, create/maintain electronic project files.

– Performance and Process Improvement:

– Act as consultant and advisor for department-wide and divisional initiatives, including strategic, operational and quality and safety initiatives.
– Serves as external, unbiased facilitator for departmental/divisional meetings and focus groups.
– Apply the CHOP Improvement Framework for managing improvement projects.
– Assist providers, faculty and administrators in the development and review of improvement measures, performance dashboards and scorecards to facilitate improvement, decision making and performance monitoring.

– Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting:

– Coordinate and perform primary and secondary data collection (e.g., databases, surveys).
– Conduct complex qualitative and quantitative analysis of project data.
– Summarize findings, draw appropriate conclusions, and effectively communicate results to team.

4. Education and Coaching:

– Coach quality and patient safety champions, project team members and division leaders, as appropriate, and provide education on project management, improvement tools and performance measurement.

Provide mentorship and advice to trainees enrolled in the advanced training residency and fellowship quality improvement and patient safety programs.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations


Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in clinical informatics, statistics, healthcare management or other healthcare related degree.

Required Experience: At least three (3) years of full time work experience as a healthcare improvement professional, using tools and methods for quality improvement, performance measurement, and change management.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

– Master’s preferred.

Additional Technical Requirements

– Established record of successful management of cross-functional projects.
– Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal).
– Strong knowledge of project planning and management tools.
– Strong knowledge of quality improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA).
– Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels.
– Attention to detail and ability to own/manage tasks to completion.
– Ability to independently conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis.
– Ability to provide effective direction to others in execution of project work.
– Significant experience coordinating/executing complex projects.
– Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
– Responsive to requests/input.
– Ability to develop/learn new skills.
– Strong knowledge of software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) and other applications for collecting/reporting data.
– Ability to convey complex or technical information in a manner that others can easily understand.
– Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and implement problem-solving capabilities.
– Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
– Strong ethical conduct and ability to work with confidential and highly sensitive information.
– Good interpersonal skills; ability to work with clinical leaders in the use of data for improvement.
