The Satellite Ground System Architect contributes to a team of systems engineers in accomplishment of engineering tasks in an iterative development environment. Is responsible for the technical quality of the assigned portions of the architectural baseline and ensures the baseline is sufficient to meet higher level requirements while not driving unnecessary cost and complexity. Decomposes system architecture and ensures alignment/coverage of the architectural baseline with the requirements and CONOPS. Provides technical direction and clarification of architectural requirements to software development teams and test personnel. Supports definition of operations concepts and procedure planning / development, interfacing with personnel from other organizations. Attends and leads technical interchange meetings with the team members and other program personnel, and represents the organization in matters pertaining to the development of his/her project. Provides status on assigned Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) tasks. Provides document review and resolves technical systems engineering and integration issues. Supports ECP efforts as required. Must have the ability to manage time and resources in order to meet assigned deadlines. Required Experience, Knowledge, and/or skills: • Minimum of 8 years Systems Engineering experience • Software systems architect training/certification • Experience in Software Architecture development/derivation/management • Responsible for developing/maintaining functional ground system architecture • Experience with satellite ground system mission planning and scheduling, or command and control • Experience in systems engineering functions including: operations concept development, requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and control • Knowledge of system integration and system test • Experience working in a multi discipline environment (must be able to communicate effectively with SW development and Test teams to convey engineering direction and receive implementation constraints/testability feedback) • Experience working in a Satellite Ground System development or operations environment • Ability to summarize/roll-up project status for leadership consumption to include clear identification of risks and issues • Must have a current SCI/SSBI Security Clearance Desired Experience, Knowledge, and/or Skills: • Experience with systems integration verification and validation (IV&V) • Experience with Risk and Opportunity management • Previous experience working with requirements management tools/databases (DOORS experience preferred) • Experience conducting trade studies • Experience with interface definition/documentation (Space to Ground ICD experience preferred) • Experience with Use Case development • Experience with UML and Rational 4+1 views (RSA experience preferred) • Experience with CONOPS development • Experience with incorporation of complex dependency management and resource loading concepts into schedule development Education: B.S./B.A. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or a science.
