Position: Systems Engineer II,

Nature of Role: This position is part of a team that provides In-Service Engineering support to Submarine SONAR Systems in Newport RI. The qualified candidate will perform multi-faceted tasking with emphasis on electronics testing / repair, and fleet support. This work will be performed on site in Newport RI, there is minimal-to-no telework available.

Responsibilities:

include but are not limited to:

  • Provide In-Service Engineering Support to NUWC Code 15 SONAR and Sensors department.
  • Conduct SONAR operability and longevity test events in both laboratory and at sea environments.
  • Provide SONAR System hardware troubleshooting and system reconfigurations.
  • Participate in shipboard testing/repair/installation events.
  • Provide distance SONAR support for deployed Submarines.
  • Inspect, Evaluate, Troubleshoot and Repair electronic assemblies, at the component level, in accordance with US NAVY and local work instructions.
  • Develop/Update local work instructions for conducting evaluations and repairs.
  • Conduct receipt inspection of materials and parts.
  • Maintain and conduct audits on, material and repair parts inventories.
  • Perform research and purchases of repair parts.
  • Maintain proprietary laboratory test units and systems to ensure all testing devices are in proper operating condition and ready for immediate use.
  • Prepare/Maintain reports and written laboratory procedures to reflect the current and up-to-date standards and practices.

Requirements:

  • Ability to Obtain/maintain SECRET Clearance.
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Possess ability to work in a team environment.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner to support repair deadlines and/or ship’s schedules
  • Exceptional organizational, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with all levels of the contractor and government/military organization
  • Ability to operate various types of electronic test equipment (Digital multi meter, oscilloscope, signal injector…)
  • Ability to read and comprehend electronics schematics and diagrams
  • Ability to conduct precision hand soldering of “through-hole” and “surface-mount” electronic components on multi-layer circuit cards
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • This work may require travel (less than 20%)

Experience:

  • Knowledge of AC and DC voltage concepts, troubleshooting, and measurement.
  • 10 + Years related electronics experience
  • Working knowledge of Naval Technical Manuals and IETMs
  • Working knowledge of Naval Supply System
  • Qualified Sonar Operator with advanced submarine technical training (e.g. Navy “A” or “C” School).
  • Familiarity with various types of computer hardware and software is desired.

Work Location: Newport RI, minimal-to-no telework available.
