Overview

Electric Boat is preparing to execute a construction and test program for the COLUMBIA Class Integrated Power Systems (IPS) at the IPS Compatibility Test Facility (CTF) in Philadelphia, PA. The IPS includes the propulsion plant (electric drive) and electrical power distribution system. Electric Boat has been tasked with outfitting the space to integrate and test the lead ship motor module. Following that program, the site will be used to test all subsequent COLUMBIA Class motor modules. Outfitting of the motor modules will occur at the Electric Boat Quonset Point facility as well as possible focus factories in the future. A pre-production integrated test program of prototypic equipment is in progress at the IPS CTF and on-going through the start of the motor module test program.

Key Tasks

  • Review and approval of design deliverables received from the Government and sub vendors which document the capabilities of existing facilities where COLUMBIA Class motor modules will be tested
  • Support Electric Boat development of design deliverables from every technical discipline (e.g. structural, mechanical, electrical) for modification of the COLUMBIA Class design to facilitate construction and test evolutions within the Electric Boat shipyard and Government test facilities
  • Management of commercial vendors finalizing the design of test facilities at Government shipyards and test facilities where portions of the COLUMBIA Class submarine will be built or tested
  • Review and approval of commercial vendor technical deliverables
  • Construction support and technical problem resolution of emergent issues during the outfitting of the IPS CTF in preparation for testing of COLUMBIA Class submarine equipment
  • Development of system designs for COLUMBIA Class IPS equipment integration
  • Completion of electrical design products in the IPDE tool
  • Development of formal correspondence
  • Sub vendor contract and performance management
  • Interface with external and internal customers to ensure program documents meet the intent of installations and testing
  • Support analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues discovered during module outfitting, installation, removal, and during the test program
  • Work travel is periodically required as well as airline travel to CONUS and OCONUS destinations

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
  • Internal candidates must be from outside of operations (Casciano/Gabriel)

Preferred:

  • Testing experience
  • Construction support experience
  • Vendor management experience
  • Electrical engineering degree
  • Engineering construction support and troubleshooting experience
  • Familiarity and experience with the COLUMBIA Class IPS system
  • MS in an engineering discipline
  • Previous Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience
