VELUX has started the journey of connecting digital products to the Internet, integrating them into smart home eco-systems, and ultimately aiming at enabling a better and healthier indoor environment. The focus of the Smart Product Technology R&D team, located in VELUX’s R&D office in Østbirk, is to continue and accelerate this journey. That is, to set the strategic digital technology direction and ensure that VELUX will continuously benefit from the rapid development within digital growth technologies like electronics, communications and AI.
Besides being an expert in communication technology, we are looking for an analytical and methodical colleague who shares our passion for pushing the product envelope in terms of ease-of-use, sustainability, and product quality.
The right candidate will play a key role in developing and setting VELUX’s long-term digital technology agenda in cooperation with internal stakeholders across the organization, and through partnerships with top national and international high-tech companies and universities.
The role, initially, will be to help build and run a new smart product technology home automation eco-system prototype lab. The role will become VELUX’s wireless IP communications infrastructure system engineering expert and will help drive the future design, architecture and direction of VELUX wireless home automation access network. As a communication technology expert, you will create a unified standard for communication between smart home devices (CHIP/Thread standardization) through various partnerships. You will be responsible for participating in standardization activities representing VELUX and be a key stakeholder in partner dialogues with 3rd party partners within wireless communications. In collaboration with your team, you will build tools and automated processes to enable scaling up the usage of data driven services as a critical, fully integrated element in the new VELUX smart products.

You need to have a relevant educational background, a Master of Science in electrical engineering within communication technology or similar. You need to have at least 5 years of industrial R&D experience within the field. It is essential that you are highly skilled in resource-limited wireless communication systems, with hands-on experience in prototype and mock-up implementations. Additionally, you have experience with open source software, software tools, and open hardware.
It is a prerequisite that you have insight and experience within several of the domains:
- Radio communications
- Wireless IP networks
- Wireless Communications for limited resource type of radio access networks
- Edge computing wireless
On a personal level, you have a passion to create innovative solutions through research-based work and are motivated by actively being part of building something new. At the same time, you understand that patience and trust in the work are necessary to follow through on programs. You are self-driven, and you tend to take initiatives to make things happen. Additionally, you have excellent critical analysis and methodical skills, supporting an evidence-based, structured way of working. You have an open and forthcoming manner and your collaboration and communication skills are outstanding – you can easily and clearly communicate complex ideas and information to other people in a way that is understandable. You work well within a team and can build a network within a large organization. You are excellent in English both orally and in writing.
