Job Description

Utilize your years of engineering and management expertise to lead our hardware development and test team. As a Hardware Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and testing of hardware products from conception to production of a variety of mechanical and electrical components and assemblies across several products managing the drone airspace.  With your extensive experience, you will mentor, grow, and shape the mechanical engineering team to development and oversee products that meet the demanding WhiteFox quality standards.

Location: San Luis Obispo, CA / Remote

Responsibilities

Provide mentoring and team leadership.
Deliver high-quality hardware products on time and within budget.
Develop and maintain hardware design standards, processes, and best practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, product management, and manufacturing, to ensure alignment and successful product launches.
Manage the entire hardware development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to prototyping, testing, and production ramp-up.
Conduct regular design reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and cost targets.
Identify and mitigate risks associated with hardware development, including technical challenges, resource constraints, and schedule delays.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in hardware engineering.
Develop mechanical products from concept to detail design and into full-scale manufacturing.
Design products for manufacturability (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA) and facilitate the transition toward high volume production.
Help improve the mechanical development process from concept through release to manufacturing.
Assist with task identification, cost estimation and scheduling for a number of different mechanical projects.
Design products for ruggedization and specify environmental tests to meet vibration, temperature, and other relative standards.

Qualifications

MUST BE A US CITIZEN
BS or higher Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related engineering degree.
At least 10 years of experience in electrical and/or mechanical engineering and releasing products with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
Proven track record of successfully delivering complex hardware products from concept to production utilizing vendors, contractors, and internal resources.
Deep understanding of hardware design principles.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities with excellent organizational skills
